Beloit superintendent enters race for state job
BELOIT, Wis. (AP) — The superintendent of Beloit schools is the third announced candidate seeking the state superintendent position.
Beloit superintendent Lowell Holtz says he will resign his current position as of June 30. The next superintendent of Public Instruction takes office July 1.
Concordia University professor Van Mobley and deputy state superintendent Tony Evers also have announced plans to seek the nonpartisan position. Current state superintendent Libby Burmaster is not seeking a third term.
A Feb. 17 primary will narrow the field to two candidates. The election is April 7.
The state superintendent is responsible for governing Wisconsin's public schools, administering state and federal aid, and offering guidance to teachers and administrators.

I had the unfortunate experience of working under Lowell Holtz. Several negative words come to mind when thinking back. Ethics Confidentiality Honesty Integrity Fairness None of the words would apply to Lowell Holtz. "Guidance to teachers and administrators" Ask teachers what they think of him. "State Principal of the Year" Nothing more than a self-promoted title. The Wisconsin education system cannot afford to place him in a powerful position. We have lost too much already. Be sure and check his background very thoroughly. Not everything is as it seems.

I am fairly certain there was an issue of whether or not to renew his contract after his first year here in Beloit. To my recollection he was given an extra year of probation and pretty much told to fix some things or he would be non-renewed. What makes him think that he can run for state superintendent? I teach under him and have since he came to Beloit. I will purposefully NOT vote for him in any election that would give him more power.

Did Lowell Holtz do a good job in Palmyra-Eagle? Better check a little closer. All I can say is run, run, as fast as you can...in the other direction.

Surprisingly, all negative comments! I hope the powers that be will actually check credentials instead of taking his word for it.
As posted on his website:
"Current Needs: Signatures!
3,000 signatures are needed to file the petition.
If you can help collect signatures of Registered Wisconsin voters"
"How many signatures would it take to make sure that he does not become the state super"???

Oh...my....Goodness!!! This is the most hilarious thing I have ever heard!! This man MAY have been a good principal in little Palmyra-Eagle or wherever, but he is not a good superintendent for the Beloit Schools. They are in HUGE budget cuts right now w/o all the industry losses like Janesville. Wonder why?? SOme of the decisions he has made have been ridiculous. And people skills???? YIKES!! There is a good reason he didn't get those positions in Kenosha or Oshkosh. I would bet they actually sent representatives to Beloit to ask those in the trenches how he was doing. I would vote for ANYBODY besides him for state superintendent. Does anyone else think he is being rather presumptuous to leave one position before he obtains another?? Perhaps resigning looks better on than resume than a termination.

I would love to see him attempt to list his "accomplishments" since he took over the Beloit District. It won't take much paper.
