Winter storm watch issued
From the National Weather Service:
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch, which is in effect from Monday evening through late Tuesday night.
Six to 12 inches of snow is possible across southern Wisconsin Monday night through Tuesday night as strengthening low pressure passes south of the state. Areas near Lake Michigan and in the far southeast may see amounts limited for a time later Monday into Monday night as warmer air briefly works into those areas.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel.

Yes I can't wait for the speed demon snowplow driver to come flying down my street and take out my mailbox like they do every year and I love when they come down in a buddy system!

2nd wind . . . City never declares a snow emergency unless they're going to plow all streets in the City.

I am already feeling for the people who are going to be affected by floods this spring. Many experts are warning of very heavy midwest spring rains. Its been on TV and I believe it based on this weather pattern. Get ready folks, they'll be shutting down parker drive again! It even flooded last winter during the ice flow jams! We can't win (except for me I live on a hill).

LOL! I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful landlord who does my city walks... I <3 it!

cool, I need some more snow to build up my snow banks, so when the frikin plows come by, they wont bury my walks with more snow than was there when I shoveled them off in the first place. Yes Mr. snowplow man, I am the one that was out there flipping you off and swearing at you when you came down my street. I think they should start their cutbacks by firing your sorry butt, before you hurt someone with the speed in which you feel the need to plow, throwing all the wet heavy stuff at the people who are actually out there trying to keep their walks cleared. Now I know why so many people don't shovel their walks any more, they see what a waste of time it is.

I don't think they get a ticket if there wasn't any plowing....

Wow I hope we do get the 13 inches of snow than dumb van cell phone drivers will have driving issues. I didn't think the cop would do much but the way he handle it like it was something major he had to do. I'm sorry you couldn't go back and sit in your car with your cup of coffee and your notebook, boohoo!

Lu
Many around me don't either. My point is that if a person doesn't move their car, and the city doesn't plow, are they still subject to a ticket? (during a snow emergency)

So, if the city is going to cut back on plowing does that mean we don't have to move our cars during a snow emergency?

Janesville Cops.. go figure... that gal saw her driving while on her cell phone with no lights on.. man...and all that cop did was make contact with her, make sure she was ok to drive, and talk to her about being more attentive, and respond to the situation that brought it to his attention....i tell you, what has this town come to....

SarahB-for traction on ice, try Yak Trax from Eddie Bauer. They're $20-30, depending on where you find them (EB store, online...). I use them all the time when walking my dog and I rarely slip on ice. Good luck!

so if the city is going to limit its plowing, does that also mean home owners don't have to shovel?

a noted result of climate change is more severe weather patterns globally and longer winters in wisconsin. to suggest climate change is not happening because the term global warming is misused, is simply an uneducated statement.

So now global warming predicts wetter winters for Wisconsin? That's very convenient for an inconvenient truth.

Now is a really bad time to cut back on plowing and salt. I was under the impression the county was retro-fitting the salt/plow trucks with a liquid sprayer for the beet juice solution (which works better than salt). What happened to this plan? I think the county needs to listen to the science behind climatology and prepare for the wetter winters.

Try wearing cleats. I would think they would help in icy sidewals. Kinda like my first car tires...they had little holes to screw plug like spikes in them for the snow. They worked pretty good.

All I know is if it snows that much I won't be getting out to take the kids to school. upto 12 inches of snow is bad enough but ice on top of that will just be too dangerous. And the country roads will be treacherous (those are ones I have to drive to get into town on).

I hope everyone stays safe.

In the weather section, there is a mention of this possible/probable storm starting as rain >>>> sleet >>>> ice pellets >>>> snow. YUCK! Ice is the absolute worst. It makes for dangerous walking for days if not longer. Does anyone know of a reliable product that goes on one's shoes or boots to help with traction on ice? I am serious here. Due to my injuries in the 98-car crash on Interstate-90 last January, I have to use a cane (and sometimes two canes) to get around and I fear ice on blacktop more than tigers, lions and bears (OH, MY!!).

I didn't realize that God was making it snow, garyprimer. I thought that was because of the LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM. For God's sake, you're in Wisconsin because you want to be, not because of what "His plan" for you is. I'm tough enough to live in Wisconsin and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with God.

"The City of Janesville is looking for ways to cut the snow plowing budget for the rest of the year."
Public Works Director Jack Messer tells WCLO's Stan Milam Show, its because the 2007-2008 snow plowing season was the worst on record, and the budget has been exhausted. He says a plan is in place to limit plowing as much as safely possible.During the first snow storm of this season, most residential streets weren't plowed."
I am sure if we get as much snow as they are predicting, THEY WILL PLOW! They are only looking at ways to limit plowing "AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE." And no matter how much they plow or don"t plow, You people will stll find a way to complain about it!
