Snow plowing of residential streets planned for Monday
The most recent weather forecast predicts moderating air and pavement temperatures through Tuesday until about 11 p.m.
Freezing rain and snow are predicted for today and tomorrow.
In anticipation of these conditions and with the current street conditions, the Janesville Public Works Department will begin residential street plow operations at about 3 p.m. Monday. Operations are expected to finish at about 10 p.m.
This action is intended to remove some already accumulated snow from the streets and prevent rutting conditions.
Crews will be called back in Tuesday morning to clear main and arterial streets.
Additional plowing, sanding and salting operations will follow the demands of the weather and street conditions.
The plan is subject to change based on weather and pavement conditions.
Currently, there is no snow emergency in effect, but it’s recommended residents remove their cars from city streets to help with the plowing effort.
A snow emergency may be declared and residents are advised to monitor local media and the city’s Web site, www.ci.janesville.wi.us, for updates.
Janesville residents can get additional snow emergency information from the city’s Web site, or by calling (608) 755-SNOW. To report problems or concerns, please call (608) 755-3110.

I give the plow drivers a thumbs up! They do what they are told and go the extra mile. Trust me, I know. Most of you don't know what they go through. So, If I were you all, I'd just chill and let them do their job.

This is ridiculous. No, don't blame the plow drivers, you're right, they do what they are told. By none other than our city governing officials. I do wonder though as my mailbox was yesterday just hit because they have chosen to omit my street and not plow it but one time so far and the street is now a multi-block ice skating rink - what it is going to take for the city to wake up. I'm guessing that it will take a child walking to school getting hit or killed and then for the driver to be blamed because the city poorly managed their budget and spent too much time researching a tunnel under a busy road. So the city only plows 'arterial' residential streets at their convenience...I forget...can I pay my property taxes at my convenience? Because I don't live on a 'non-arterial' (translation - not EXTREMELY busy) street, I don't get plowed or treated the same? I guess it is cheaper to not plow and then wait for an accident to occur and then send 4 or 5 city police, some fire and rescue workers and paramedics than it is to plow and be PROACTIVE up front...HMM?? As I said in a post on another article...these are the same brainiac governing 'folks' who will wonder why people complain about Janesville, move away, look elsewhere for schools, jobs, etc. Seriously somewhere in this city, the governing officials need to get it together - this is Wisconsin, news flash, we have snow, we need snow removal and road treatment. Ridiculous.

These comments are humorous. People complain like the dickens when the City doesn't plow. They complain like the dickens when they do plow. Darned of they do and darned if they don't. If anyone cared to take the time to listen to or read reports of WHY they decided to plow last night - you'd stop complaining.

I don't think anyone is blaming plow drivers. Because they are just doing their jobs. Its the people who tell them to do their jobs that everyone has a problem with. I just hope everyone drives safe or doesn't drive at all. Wish I would have left this morning to go up North now I have to wait till all this is gone. Oh well, snow is pretty, till you have to shovel or drive!

Don't even bother now, theres A butt load of snow coming in the next 24hrs and you want to try and clean up BEFORE are you retarded or inbreed? Just make sure you at the city can figure out A way to get the city cleaned up for drivers when the storm ends this time! What the heck happened to the solution stuff that was going to be put down so the snow would melt and it would prevent icing on roads? Was that just another lie being feed to us so we would feel safe going into this winter? Come on Jack Messer get out that magic liquid you said you were going to use on our streets, or are you saving it for your own street? Lets not plow, wait no lets plow oh I casn't make up my mind OOOPS its gonna snow again, yup just another day here in PARIDISE........ Good luck to anybody that has to get out of their driveways tommorrow morning, ahh then again maybe they won't plow yet.......

First they say that they are not going to plow as much to cut back on costs. Now their plowing to get rid of the snow thats already on the streets from the last snow. Guess they must of found some money in the sofa.

My street was just plowed, they went down in three times, and I hear them again! What is that all about? There was pretty much nothing on my street, it was almost melted. They just wasted money coming down my street!

I agree. Our road rarely gets plowed even when they do plow all of the roads. If you are only going 25, it isn't a problem.

Then maybe you should slow down. I live on one of the last streets that gets plowed. My car does fine. I don't care if the residential streets get plowed as long as the main roads do and the streets by the schools do. If we get a lot of snow then make one pass down the residential streets so people don't get stuck. My car is 5 years old too and it is fine on these side roads. Maybe you should look into the dealer and not the roads!

localboy, you must not live on one of these arterial streets. My car is only five years old, but it feels like it's falling apart when I drive through the packed down snow on my street that hasn't been plowed.

Why start now? I think people are forced to be more careful when the streets (auxilary) are not plowed. Leave them and save the money. Only take care of the main routes.

Thank you very much to the public works dept. for deciding to take this action! Also for announcing it publicly. Well done!
