Edgerton Hospital and Health Services has formed a "limited affiliation" with SSM Health Care of Wisconsin, the parent company of St. Mary's Hospital in Madison and the new St. Mary's Janesville Hospital, the two groups announced in a news release today.

Edgerton Hospital will remain under the local control of its nine-member board and CEO Jim Pernau, the release says. The affiliation will give Edgerton Hospital access to services such as group purchasing, nurse consulting services and quality improvement programs, Pernau said.

The affiliation should not affect Edgerton Hospital's plans for a new facility, Pernau said.

SSM broke ground on St. Mary's Janesville Hospital in November.

That hopital should never have been proposed. What a drain on community resources for something not needed. Hospitals surround Edgerton. Most within 10 miles.

The nursing home and assisted living are separate from the hospital. They have their own plans.

So, if the hospital is not built, what happens to my donation? Hmmm.....

It would seem that whatever is behind this, it's generally a positive step towards keeping some sort of hospital in Edgerton.

Relatives tell me that the new hospital in Edgerton is not going to be built.

*
Speculation is economic conditions of neighboring communities, combined with dismal private fundraising, have doomed construction of the hosptal/village.
*
Speculation is the plans are being revamped/downsized to become an assisted living/retirement village.
*
Perhaps this partnering with St. Mary's is step one in announcing a change of plans??

SSM and Edgerton have formed a "Limited affiliation"? What is the core of St. Mary's (SSM) interest here? Why would they take interest in building another hospital a just over 10 miles up the interstate? My opinion...because they don't want Edgerton to build their fancy hospital and medical complex. Instead, they want to get Edgerton residents to hop on the interstate and travel a few exits down to the new St. Mary's Janesville hospital.
