The first of two snowfalls this week is expected Tuesday.

The National Weather Service predicts 3 to 7 inches of snow will fall in Rock and Walworth counties between noontime Tuesday and Tuesday night.

Chances of snow Tuesday were put at 90 percent.

Tuesday's high temperature is expected to be 17 in Rock County but 19 in Walworth County.

Wednesday is expected to be sunny and warmer by a degree or two.

Forecasters see a 60 percent chance of snow on Thursday and into Thursday night, for an accumulation of 4 to 7 inches in Rock County, with lesser amounts to the east.

Figures, we will be coming in for Xmas this Friday and it will be in the 70s where I live. I really hate WI winters! I vote to move Xmas to July so I don't shutter when I think about visiting my parents for Xmas.

global warming or ice age... either way, it looks to me it's more of a typical WI winter... and those that say we fought the Cold War back in the '90's and are in the desert now, put yourselves in those that are serving's footsteps... would you be able to put your lives on the line to keep our country free and allow others to joke/belittle about everyday life when they fight for you do be able to do so?? until then, leave that particular subject out of this conversation...

One of key thing for providing accurate statistics is to have a sufficient sample size. Is 120 years a sufficient sample? Not likely. Was the technology used to measure tempetures in the late 1800's accurate? Predictions are only as good as the information used, and if that information isn't correct, how can anything be predicted with a high level of confidence?

Although global warming is real, and somewhat preventable, the extreme weather we have been seeing is more cyclic than anything else. For several years we were actually in the midst of an abnomally mild period of weather. Extreme hot, cold, precip, storms, and odd weather changes will probably be felt now for another 20-30 years. We may as well get used to it.

The responses in this thread depress me. Science education levels have plummeted in the US compared to other countries and global warming denial seems to correlate highly with poor science education generally.

"2008 is supposed to be cooler than the past few years because of La Nina"

So 2008 will be cooler than the past 10 years because of something that has nothing to do with man (La Nina) but has been occuring in a cycle for as long as anyone can determine? gee, almost makes you think that a 10 year warming cylcle in a 120 year period could also just be caused by nature.

Was is still global warming when we used to have WINTER all the time in past? You know snow..lots of it. Just seems like everyone is shocked when we get snow anymore. It's really strange. We do live in the midwest.

Here are a couple more links for anyone who wants to know more about global warming. 2008 is supposed to be cooler than the past few years because of La Nina, but it is still supposed to be above the 100 year average temperature. As with any research, you have to look at the big trends, not individual cases to see the whole picture. This year could be an outlier, which would not affect the overall theory of global warming.

I'm not an Al Gore fan, but I do tend to believe that the earth is warming and that humans are contributing (not the cause, but making it worse).

The ice age was what 10 12 million years ago, and it started to melt and formed our streams, lakes, rivers etc and it is still melting, no carbon footprint of man then. My teacher told us (1943) that if we could all live long enough we would see the climate change, the norhtern hemisphere would be come the sounthern hemisphere and vias versa, why? the earth is slowing tipping on its axis. He also said we would have a man on the moon in our lifetime.

No one is arguing that the past 10 years have been warmer (though a 120 year cycle in the life of the earth is hardly an adequate sample set). The two points that are being argued are:

1) Is this primarily due to man made influences?

2) If the answer is yes (and not simply a normal cycle) then how do you explain that 2008 is ontrack to be the coldest year in the past 10? Shouldn't the warm up continue?

Here is some factual information about average temps in Wisconsin since 1890. Looks like we have been well above normal since 1997. (If anyone would rather look at facts rather than their own opinions). There also appears to be a lot of variation, but not as many hot years in a row as we have had since 1997.

This whole "global warming" deal is actually earths natural cycle. Many scientists believe were slipping into a mini ice age. The Earth cooled by .6C last year. The largest one year drop ever recorded and is still cooling. If you ask me this has been the coldest winter I can ever remember.

None of you (or me for that matter) are smart enough to understand. Its not Global Warming now, its Climate Change. That allows those who want to profit from the "crisis" while tearing down others to pretty much define any weather situation as being caused by man.

Snow in New Orleans - Climate Change
Heavy Rain in Northern California - Climate Change
Too hot in July in Wisconsin - Climate Change
Windy in Chicago - Climate Change
Dry in Arizona - Climate Change
Hurricanes in Florida and Tornadoes in Kansa - you guessed it.

By the subtle change from Global Warming to Climate Change, they can never be wrong.

DIdn't you guys see the article yesterday? The fact that the earth is cooling is actually proof of global warming. I kid you not!

The nice thing about conspiracy theories, which global warming is, is that they can never be proven wrong.
