Outside groups set record spending on Wis. races
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Special interest groups spent a record $7.1 million on Wisconsin legislative races this year.
That's according to a report released Wednesday by the government watchdog group the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.
The top spender was the state's teachers' union. The Wisconsin Education Association Council spent $2.1 million on five Democratic Assembly races. Three of the candidates it backed won.
The conservative Coalition for America's Families was second, spending $1.3 million against Democratic candidates. The report says coalition-backed Republican candidates won at least two races.
Rounding out the top four were the liberal Greater Wisconsin Committee at $1.3 million and All Children Matter, which spent $900,000 supporting Republican candidates.

I hope WEAC doesn't whine too much about budget cuts when they had enough in their war chest to spend $10 for every man, woman and child in the 43rd Assembly District to keep Hixson in office.

When a large political contribution is given to a candidate, and that candidate wins, then the candidate should excuse him/her self of any votes that deals with that political group. Lawyers & Judges have to excuse themselves of conflict of interest, why not our lawmakers? I'm sure there is a law on the books already. But this article dosn't name any names of the takers. WHO GOT THE GOODIES?

Of the $2.1 million WEAC spent on five Assembly races, over $500,000 went to keep Kim Hixson in office.

At least two, farmdude. All Children Matter, the ironically named political committee for the Wal-Mart bucks, was spending heavily on both Davis and Towns.
The CAF dollars are tied to Rock County in a tangible way as well.

The Gazette should point out that one of these heavily-financed races took place in Rock County.
