Interstate travel inadvisable

The Wisconsin State Patrol is asking people not to travel on Interstate 90/39 unless it is an emergency, said Sgt. Candy Knoz of the state patrol.

Road conditions have deteriorated, and more snow is expected.

Towing has been suspended between mile markers 171 and 177. Mile marker 171 is near the Highway 26 exit; mile marker 177 is near Avalon Road, south of Janesville.

“It’s just too dangerous,” Knoz said.

Towing is only being allowed if the car is blocking traffic.

No newsread, its jerks like you that cause accidents. I'm sorry but my 2 year old daughter's life is not worth you getting where you need to go a little faster. I am NOT going to pull over to the side of the road when it's snowing and icy out. You can wait! If you feel it is necessary to go that damn fast than you can pass me. Then it will be your fault. And I WILL sue you for it. No I am not one of those sue happy people, but if you hit me with my daughter in the car you can best bet I will. Its pulling over to the side of the road that causes accidents. You have to slow way down just so you don't slide into the ditch. I prefer going the speed limit and if it is snowing I will go as fast as I feel is comfortable. If you don't like it, turn off the road and find another way. I WILL NOT PUT MY DAUGHTERS LIFE IN JEPORADY FOR SOME DUMBASS WHO FEELS IT NECESSARY TO DRIVE LIKE A DUMBASS! You can bash me all you want I don't care, I'm still going to drive at a safe speed for the conditions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you too! Why don't people just take their time or leave a little earlier if they want to get there sooner? I'm not sorry that my family and my life is more important than there schedule! Besides if they hit me in the rear, it is there fault, I'll take their insurance money!!! I hope this stops before tomorrow so they can plow!?! We are on our way then to milwaukee and family, don't want to miss it! Merry Christmas everyone!

Um Gabby and Janesv---- why would you not just pull over and let the vehicle go by, it is people like you that cause the accidents . when you see cars lined up behind you common sense says pull aside

Totally agree with you Janesvillian! I don't know why people think tailgating will get you to go faster. I slow down at least 5 mph and if they continue to do it I'll go another 5 mph. My life and my families life is not worth you getting where you need to go two min. earlier! At least that's how I feel.

Had to do some errands today, or I wouldn't have been out there. On 51 there was a run-off in a snowbank -- about 20 yards farther and he would have taken the short way down to County F.
.
I can believe people go faster than I feel safe, and when there are two lanes I'll let them past. But if there aren't, they seem to think that tailgating me will make me go faster. They should realize that getting that close to me means I slow down even more. Sorry to be a jackhole about it, but that's life.

FYI - Highway 14 East of Janesville to Darien is in good condition. Plows and a grader were widening the shoulders and ditches an hour ago.
Take it easy though.

I've just driven home from Madison to Janesville via the Interstate. It took me a while, because I drove slowly. There are still plenty of slippery patches, but it's alright if you take it slowly.

I am wishing I had taken Highway 14 (which is my usual route), after reading the previous comment.

You're better off taking hwy 14. I just came home from work in Madison and hwy 14 was not bad at all. Smooth sailing. Lots of traffic, but that is probably better, hopefully helps get some of the snow off of the road.

It looks like there's quite a backup going Southbound around the Racine Ave exit right now:

symbajan, my mother just made the trek from Madison to Janesville. She said that I-90 was pretty icy, but it's completely manageable if you're just safe about it. There's no snow on the interstate. Just patches of ice. Hopefully that helps answer your question. Note: She gets off I-90 at the Racine Street interchange.

I have to get home from work in Madison tonight.
Am I okay if I get off the Interstate at Edgerton?

It was bad yesterday. Folks driving way too fast and following each other too closely. I got off as soon as I could and switched to country roads. Difficult to believe, but they were much better.

Just got back from Stoughton, at least 12 cars in the ditch once I hit the Rock county line. At hwy 26 interchange there is a pickup on it's side in the middle with the windshield knocked out. It's not bad if you keep it a little slower.

That must be a really wicked six mile stretch.
