The Edgerton and Milton fire departments and the Rock County Sheriff’s Department responded to a water rescue at 1707 E. Road 8 in Newville on Lake Koshkonong a minute before 11 a.m. today after someone reported seeing two snowmobiles break through the ice, according to Rock County 911 dispatch.

About 10 minutes later, two people were reported to be out of the water and on the ice but still on the lake.

By 11:25 a.m., one person was off the lake, and rescue workers were going to be able to reach the other person without the use of boats, according to dispatch.

The boys of Rock County Water Rescue team save the day again. In these cold temperatures those riders were lucky someone saw them go in. I hope that they are alright.

Its pretty obvious that these riders were NOT experienced or familiar with the lake. As you can see on the map, they were very close to the river which never freezes. They are very lucky.

One more reason why I never go on the ice....don't care how thick it is! I hope these people are okay!
