Wisconsin votes for Obama
MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Barack Obama won Wisconsin's Democratic primary Tuesday over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, keeping the momentum heading into pivotal contests two weeks away and delivering another setback to the New York senator's campaign.
The Associated Press made its call based on surveys of voters as they left the polls and early returns.
Republican John McCain easily defeated former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

A person should never be judged on the color of their skin, the God they choose to worship or their gender, rather they should looked upon on how they treat others and their character. Not all Christians are good nor are all Muslims bad. I truly hope that some of the biases and bigotries that I’ve read today are nothing more that rhetoric. If not I feels sorry for those short sighted and narrow minded people.

You missed the point. The point was that in the eyes of Islam Obama is a Muslim. It doesn't matter what he thinks. I was just stating that in the eyes of extremists in Afghanistan and Iraq and Pakistan that they may have a Muslim in the most powerful office in the world. As these are the people that go by the laws of Islam. And kill in the name of Allah.

I was referring to the statements below that were saying that Obama is a Christan. I simply stated that his name is Arabic and the name comes from the Koran. The statement about Michelle Obama is absurd to even attempt at defending that and shows ignorance. She and her husband are the top 1% of wage earners she didn't come from a poor up bringing and should be proud of her country. Woman were not allowed to vote at one time in our history. Shouldn't she be proud of her country for overcoming that? Wasn't she proud of her country when her husband was elected to the Senate? It was just a statement that she shouldn't have made and made her look bad.

I think that whatever is decided in this election that the voters need to vote for the most experienced person. An employer wouldn't hire someone without experience so why should we vote for someone that doesn't have the most job experience? Just because someone has a great personna doesn't mean they are the most qualified. We need someone with experience to get us out of the mess we are in, Hilary seems like she can do the job. Obama looks like a great candidate but I don't think it's his time yet. He needs to get a little more experience under his belt and could be one of the best presidents in the future if he just waits a little bit longer. There are alot of questions I still have about him as well. My intuition and gut feelings tell me something isn't right. How do we know he's not the one prophesied in the bible to fool us as a false prophet? Some things seem too good to be true sometimes and this is where you need to ask yourself, could this be one of them? I myself am very disappointed Edwards dropped out of the race. He was the best candidate but sometimes people only vote for the fluff just like they vote for the most attractive person who has no substance deep down. I just hope America wakes up before it's too late or they may be sorry again like they were after Bush got in the White House, but then again, that was a rigged campaign both times, anyway. The people who are really running this country will probably rig this one too. It's almost enough to make a person not want to even bother voting but you have to. Only once the people take a stand will we ever have a government that is worthwhile. Just remember there are many other countries who respect and vote women into office. There has to be something said about that. Let's hope we choose well.

>Barack Obama was originally named “Baraka.” It is not an African name. It's an Arabic word meaning “blessed” and comes directly from the Koran.
Actually, Barack is rooted in both Arabic and Swahili. Swahili borrows a great number of words Arabic, and it's clear that Bara(c)k is one of them.
But...what is your point exactly? That our names define who we are? (So...someone named Moses is, therefore, a better Christian than someone named George? Get real).
Let's be honest. You're trying to present yourself as knowledgable, but you're simply being offensive in your religious intolerance. (By your account, we would have to dump our numbering system, because our numbers are, after all, "Arabic" numerals).

>Michelle Obama is now proud of her country.
She was referring to the political process (which frankly, I think a lot of us haven't been very proud of in recent years). Let's not pretend that justice has prevailed over the years. It hasn't, and that, of course, is why we need change and a strong leader to help us strive for better things.
Also, I thought the comment that implied that she should be proud that a black woman actually could attend an Ivy League college was rather racist and offensive. She's a highly intelligent woman and she got into college on her own merits. (And for the record, the first black woman graduated from Harvard Law School more than 50 years ago. I think it's time we stopped asking black women to kiss the earth in gratitude for the honor. If you can get into Princeton or Harvard, you've got a good head on your shoulders, and you're most likely the kind of person who can make a differnce in the world. End of story).

Thank you, copperguy, for your wise words about religious bigotry. Even though Obama is a Christian and has never been a Muslim (a fact that has been checked over and over by such publications as Newsweek, The Los Angeles Times and the Chicago Sun Times), you're right that we shouldn't be judging any of the candidates (or each other) on faith.
I'm not quite sure what all the bigots are suggesting, anyway. What nefarious thing do they think he is going to do? Why don't they check the facts? The truth is that Obama has been right under our noses for a long time.
1. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School (prior to attending Harvard, he directed community organizing projects in low income communities in New York and Chicago. In 1992, he directed Illinois Project VOTE!, a state-wide voter registration and education campaign).
2. After graduating, he turned down higher paying jobs to practice civil rights law in Chicago
3. He served in the Illinois State Senate from 1996-2004 and in the U.S. Senate from 2005 until now (in other words he's been in elective office for over ten years).
4. While in the Illinois Senate, he was responsible for passing legislation that requires the police to tape interrogations and confessions, a move that required Obama to win over reluctant parties from both sides of the aisle (winning in the House, in the Senate 35-0 and getting the governor to sign off on it). Illinois became the first state to require videotaping.
5. He played a major role in passing Illinois' earned-income tax credit to help the poor (the first earned-income tax credit for the state). He also was instrumental in passing the ethics and campaign finance law in 25 years (which makes Illinois one of the top states in regards to campaign finance disclosure).
6. In 1997, The Independent Voters of Illinois awarded him Best Freshman Legislator Award
7. In 1998, The Better Health Care and Illinois Primary Health Care Association awarded Obama the Outstanding Legislator Award.
8. He has been a senior lecturer on Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School since 1993 (currently on leave of absence, of course).
9. In the U.S. Senate he worked with Russ Feingold to co-author, introduce and pass major ethics reform (which, in part requires lawmakers to disclose the names of lobbyists who "bundle" contributions for them).
10. He's a member of numerous Senate committees, including the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and is Chairman of the Subcommittee on European Affairs.
What more do you want to know?

People just need to vote for whomever they think is going to do the best job. Don't vote based on race or gender, but for the person that is best suited to run this country. Personally, I don't think that it matters if Obama or Clinton are the democratic candidate. I think I republican will win office just to spite either one of them. I am not going to speak as to my preference in the primary race, so forgive me if I am straying from the topic directly at hand.
I can not sit by and allow hateful (that is, full of hate) comments go unnoticed.
I became a police officer because I adore the United States and Wisconsin Constitutions. Those documents ensure equality to all.
When I read or hear people attack other human beings (Americans or otherwise) on the perception or reality of their faith, I am beyond appalled. I cannot put my outrage into words.
To allow such attacks to go unchecked would be adoptive omission on my part. Shame on any person, of any nationality, who denigrates others based on religious bigotry.

marymac, please, go google this (and use the "news" setting when you do). Months ago a Clinton volunteer was given the boot from her campaign for starting the (now-viral, thanks to people like you who do not fact-check) rumor that Obama is Muslim.
He did not change his religion. He is a Methodist. He and his wife have always belonged to a Methodust congregation. He did not attend a madrassa in Indonesia. Affirmation of that fact, and the apology, came straight out of Clinton's mouth.
But I still wish someone could tell me what difference it would make if he WERE Muslim. Because IF you do your homework, you will discover that there are far fewer Islamist fanatics in the world than there are Christian ones. Muslim beliefs, at least as taken from the original holy book, are very close to those of Christianity, and Muslims are bidden to do works of peace and love. (Sound familiar?) There are Muslims who twist the meaning of the Koran, just as there are Christians who twist the meaning of the Bible. And a twisted Christian is just as dangerous as a twisted Muslim. Decent reflection of that would include the last seven years in this nation.
Holy moley, what the heck kind of media are you listening to?

Read a paper, watch an hour or more of "normal" news (not FoxNews), look at the candidates sites, read some blogs on CNN or MSN or something.
If you want to have some base to your claims and substance to your attacks, involve some information. Not just, "He's a cult figure, his past, I'm voting republican, he's shallow, has not plan, etc." THOSE ARE JUST WORDS
Look up Hillary not releasing her tax returns (Saudi funding), her whole Walmart and other corruptions in Arkansas, her votes, etc. Remember she was the one that suddenly went negative and was the return to the same old politics.

Stop being so narrow minded.
He can reach across to the other parties, age gaps, races, etc. No one wants four more years of the conservative agenda that has us in a hole. I know we need to fund the military and fund the troops so they have what they need but a million plus a week at the least while our economy goes south is not right. I could go on but I won't.
Hillary will not get a single thing passed. She's so polarizing and would have every Republican out to vote against her if she won the nomination and that would mean the above would come true.
I would rather and did vote for someone with hope, who's going to be a leader, who is willing to listen to the people. I want a change from the same old d.c. two step with the same old players. I'd rather take the chance with him for four years then the rest of the choices.
