Renewed interest in Milton's cougar
ROCK COUNTY — The Department of Natural Resources is reassuring Rock County residents the cougar spotted in various areas won't prey on pets.
That's something coyotes and sometimes owls do, according to the DNR's Brian Buenzow. Buenzow gave an update to the Rock County Board of Supervisors Thursday. There haven't been cougar sightings since January, but tracks have been reported this week. On his way to the meeting, Buenzow says he stopped near Milton to investigate the tracks. One of the tell-tale marks of cougar tracks is that there are no claw marks, thanks to the cat's retractable claws.
The fate of the cougar depends on whether it's a wild cougar or escaped from captivity. If it's wild, Buenzow says the DNR will allow it to roam as long as it doesn't pose a threat to livestock or people. If it's escaped from captivity, other measures will be necessary because it wouldn't be afraid of people.
An unusual wild animal has also be seen in the Clinton area. Buenzow says that's the only area of the county where rogue wolves have been reported consistently for the last four or five years.

How in good conscience, can the DNR "reassure" anyone about a cougar roaming among homes, pets, children??!?!?!??!?!

Everthing the DNR does is based on their "best guess."
