EVANSVILLE--Wind turbines sited in Union Township would need to be built at least one-half mile from homes and 1,000 feet from the nearest property line, according to a proposed wind ordinance presented to the Town of Union Plan Commission tonight.

The town’s Wind Turbine Study Committee presented its recommendations tonight at the Eager Free Public Library.

The committee was charged with investigating industrial wind turbines and writing a proposed ordinance that would regulate how turbines could be sited in the township, committee chairman Tom Alisankus said.

The recommended setbacks are the absolute minimum, Alisankus stressed, because the information the committee gathered suggested even greater distances of up to 1 1/2 miles.

Ordinances can only regulate turbines in regard to public health and safety, he said.

The town board has imposed a stay on construction of large wind energy systems until August.

Securing wind power is an important step in shifting our energy supply from fossil fuels(coal, oil, gasoline, etc.) to clean energy. People fear that which they do not know, and unfortunately, many people are actually against alternate energy sources.
Wake up and choke on the smog, people! The science proves the use of fossil fuel is detrimental to the quality of life on earth!
Wind, solar, hydro, and bio- power are necessary. Rock County could be a leader in this area by allowing turbines, solar fields, and bio-fuels to predominate our energy sources. 96% of Wisconsins energy comes from coal fired power plants. It doesn't have to be this way.

It sounds as if some are trying to heavily regulate these wind turbines. Making it almost impossible to set these up. I'm still up in the air as far as the thought of the tubines being "eye sores" but the energy it produces with zero to minimal emissions is impressive.

Are people against the corporate greed? or the notions of the tubines being eye sores?
