Hearing set in child sex case
JANESVILLE The attorney for convicted child pornographer Jeremy C. Schade is seeking a second psychiatric opinion on his client’s mental health.
Lawyer Josh Klaff on Monday asked Rock County Judge Alan Bates for another hearing so that Klaff could request the court’s approval of a second psychiatrist to examine Schade. Bates scheduled another hearing for 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Schade had been scheduled for a jury trial in April on six state charges of child sexual assault and 11 counts of possessing child pornography. But he changed his plea to not guilty by reason of mental illness, prompting a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.
That report is in, but Schade and his attorney want a second opinion.
A year ago, Schade pleaded guilty to eight federal charges of producing child pornography. He was sentenced to 220 years in prison without chance of parole.
Schade has been in custody at the Rock County Jail since April, so he could be in court for his state trial and hearings.

Legalizing prostitution does not influence a child predator. Whether a man commits pedophilia is not because he can not be with an adult woman. His desire focuses on children. Many children were hurt emotionally and physically, and they will have those emotional scars for the rest of their lives. My heart goes out to those children, they are the victims here.
I think in regards to a state trial, it should be up to the victims and their families to see if they go forward. 220 years is a long time and he will never be in our community again.
I support shows such as Dateline's "To Catch A Predator."
I believe this man is mentally ill to have hurt so many children, but I am sure he is mentally competent to know that what he did was horribly wrong.

Ralph, I kind of see your point but sexual assault isn't about the sex. It's about the power they feel over their victim. Legalizing prostitution isn't going to stop sexual assults.

I feel so sorry for this poor man. This why prostitution needs to be legal. It is the systems fault.

I agree, let the people deal with him!! I'll tell you one thing, if anyone did anything to any of my kids, they wouldn't be trying them for the crime, I'd be up for murder!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not an eye for an eye , take it into your own hands vengeful person, but when it comes to my kids....

have you seen the amount of sex offenders in Janesville?? They are spread out all over the city, not just "released into the Fourth Ward".
Personally I think they should all make their own city and be confined to it for they rest of their lives, that is if the state wont keep them in jail till they die!

They really need to adopt the death penalty in all states for these individuals that cannot be rehabilitated.

twistedstorm; are you absolutely out of your mind? Ten years? Please!!! It has only been proven time and time again that these kinds of offenders can not be rehabilitated! Do you really think he'll learn a lesson in 10 years? If his crimes really are as insignificant as you think they are, they would be sending him to kindergarten jail and not federal prison. The guy is a waste and a detriment to society. I hope he rots!

nurse, I understand your position in to a degree I agree with it. It must be a difficult decision for the district attorney's office to make what with budget concerns etc. It does seem like a waste of valuable resources to prosecute someone already serving three lifetimes. But I'm not sure that it seems that way to the victim or their families. I understand that there's a trauma involved in the victims having to relive the crime in court but I also know that there are victims who find closure in that process and actually benefit from it. Also would a victim feel that justice has been served if a criminal went to jail for different crimes and faced no consequences for the crimes committed against them. That might bother me.
Evidently that first exam didn't go the way he had hoped. If he wants a second exam pay for it himself. Why should the state pay for two?

10 years is not enough for his victims...he is a sick man! This was also not his first time; they found multiple victims.

Twisted I disagree, he plead guilty to producing child porn... not just possessing it. I think 220 years is just about right if he's mental competent.

I agree this man should receive help, but he did admit and plead guilty to having child pornography on his computer. He is facing additional charges of actually sexually assaulting children. I am just glad his behavior did not escalate before he was caught. If he was only given 10 years, he could have the opportunity upon release to actually hurt children fatally. I think a sentence of 220 years is justice.

I dont think 220 years prison is the best option for this wouldnt 10 yrs be enough enough to wake him up and say this is wrong.

I'm confused, if he's already been sentenced to 220 years without the possibility of parole, why are we bothering with a state trial and a second opinion psych evaluation? Can't the taxpayers money go to something more useful, say like, counseling for the victims?
In addition, the victims have been victimized enough without having to go through another trial process. I think the money spent on the trial should go into a fund for the victims..

he plead guilty last year for other charges and sentenced 220 years without parole, how could he have done those other charges currently against him. if the current charges occured about the same time as the prior ones, why didnt the lawyer do the mental issue for the prior charges
