Favre will retire after 17 NFL seasons with Packers
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - FOX Sports and ESPN.com are reporting that Packers quarterback Brett Favre will not return for an 18th NFL season.
Favre told Packers coach Mike McCarthy that he will retire. That's according to ESPN.com, who talked to Favre's agent Bus Cook.
Only two years removed from perhaps the worst season of his career, Favre had a resurgence in 2007. He broke several career records, including Dan Marino's career mark for career touchdown passes, powered the Packers to an NFC North title and 13-3 regular season record and was named to his ninth Pro Bowl.
Given Favre's career resurgence, it was widely assumed that he was leaning toward returning for the 2008 season.
He even said as much just before the Packers' divisional playoff game against Seattle, telling his hometown newspaper that he wasn't approaching the game as if it would be his last and was more optimistic than in years past about returning.

I am convinced that because Management did not seem to support Brett, is part of the reason for his decision. I'm sure Aaron Rogers will do well.

This stinks but we knew it would happen. They will move on and they will still b the Packers. As 4 the people that cry and grieve over this... why? He is a man like any other man. He plays a game that whether they win or lose it does not have any impact on are real life. I hate when the lose too... but my life does not revolve around football, hell any sport for that matter. I just don't understand when people cry over stuff like this. I know i'm not the only one that says that either. If #4 or the Packers has a impact on your life that is a decent story then tell me. If not we all love #4 and the Packers and will continue to watch and cheer and go to games, but come Monday morning its business as usual. Hey Packer Fans don't be like those Chicago fans. When #23 retired they were only #23 fans not Bulls fans.. Don't be a #4 fan and only that. He is only one person. Remember the Packer History!!!
You know what... The Bears Still SUCK and so due the VIQUEENS!

Brett has been a big part of my life...after all I was 23yrs when he started with GB and now I will be 40. The games are just not going to be the same. I mean we were up and down in our seats, holding our heads. My mom and I would completely wear ourselves out each game. Brett will be greatly missed and we all knew this day was coming and be glad he wasn't quitting to go to another team. He stuck with GB through these years and GB stuck with Brett. That says a lot. My eyes have also been filled with tears. It was like he was part of the family.
Thank You Brett!!!

It's a sad day for Packer fans.
I wonder how many times the Gazette will start a new Favre story today. We might have a record.
