Favre confirms retirement
A teary Brett Favre made it official. He's retired.
The star Packers quarterback choked up as he said that he's retiring from the NFL and the Packers.
He says: It was never about the money or fame or records.''
That's his message Thursday at a news conference at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. It's the first time the three-time MVP has spoken publicly about his decision.
Favre first told Packers coach Mike McCarthy he intends to retire Monday night. He then made it official in a discussion with general manager Ted Thompson on Tuesday.

Favre is not retiring.
He's letting the new quarterback get established to avoid a ruckus on the Packers when he signs with the Bears.

Favre is a hero! No man/woman is perfect. When he made mistakes, he admitted to his error and corrected it. He stayed true to the game and gave it everything he had. He NEVER missed a game since the very first time he stepped on the field as the Green Bay Packers Quarterback. He maintains complete modesty dispite being the amazing sportsman that he is. While there may be other heroes of great calibur in different venues, I don't think anyone can challenge the authenticity and greatness that is Brett Favre. He didn't "just play football". He played with heart. He accepted blame when he was at fault and strived to be better. In my life, I have met very few people that are willing to do that. He's a hero in my book and I will truly miss watching his energy on the field. When I'd see Brett smile, I knew it was going to be a fun game to watch!

I grew up in Wisconsin but was never a football fan until I watched Favre. He made the game fun and exciting. Even though I am saddened I do understand as I made a life changing decision this last year. There's always regrets but in my case it was for the best. Brett, thanks for all you did for the Packers, Green Bay and your charities. The game will go on but Packer fans will never forget number 4.

With all the talk of steriods in Baseball and crime in the NFL it is so refreshing to see a caliber of man like Brett. You gave your all on and off the field. Win or lose you showed up every time. We will miss you on Sunday's in the fall but will remember you always. I look forward to watching the game next season when the Packer's retire your number. Go on and relax and catch some big fish in Kiln. All the best to you and your family.

I am truly sad - my eyes are still sore too! Brett is definitely a hero among men. My dad grew up in Pulaski (near GB) and even though we lived in Illinois for many years was a Packer fan all his life. Sadly he died the summer of 1992 so missed these legendary years. Dad would be so proud!

Should I feel bad for myself that I picked to admire a person with honest values who overcame serious issues in and out of the public eye? What type of person is your hero? Michael Jackson?

Even that bear game in soldier field as cold as it was it was worth it!!!!! and he had so much emotion who would have tears during that press conference.WE WILL MISS YOUR PRESENCE AND THANKS FOR ALL THE MEMORIES #4

To "Whatdidyousay" - it surprises you that if given a choice, people may choose to spend a couple hundred dollars on an afternoon of fun vs. an afternoon at a Doctors office? Really?

I'm sad to see him go but having the chance to watch him all these years was great! I would like to see him come back but if he feels he is not mentally able to then it's best he doesn't. He will be greatly missed by so many. I personally think he would be awesome as co-host on Fox NFL pregame show with Terry & Howie and get rid of Jimmy Johnson.
To all you that are going out and buying up at the stores of all Brett's things is crazy! If you were a true fan you would have already had these items. Why did you wait so long?

Once upon a time it was superman then it was batman then it was Babe Ruth,Dimaggio,Blanda,Lumbardia,Ditka,Robinson,Marino,White...etc.etc..and yes Farve. It's not important that you agree with these idols or their status. What's important is that there are people like these and that you have idols of your own because without them and mine life as we know it and the past 17 football season wouldn't have been quite the same.

Kenbjammen, you sound as is Favre has died as do so many people. I get that this is a huge deal for Packer fans but why not be glad for him and remember what great things he's accomplished on the field with the Packers??? Be glad you got to experience watching this fantastic player before he retired.
