Variety - a number of different items in a group or category. Janesville (Rock County) has a variety of people who like a variety of music/entertainment. All country acts and a kiddie act is not really a variety. I think the fair should be structured so the cost of admittance does not include the music/entertainment. Then all of the comments of "don't go if you don't like it" could be valid. I am paying for the entertainment that I don't care for by buying a ticket to show my children the farm animals and the chance to get a Rolling Pin eclair. Separate the fair from the entertainment and let the fair board chose whomever they wish to entertain the so called majority.

Is anyone familiar with Cutting Room Floor?? They're a local band and they'd be a great "new" act for the fair.

BIGGEST ACT... Same Night/Time As 4H Kids Take Out their Project!!! AGAIN!... since the fair moved to a thur-Sunday lineup.. kids MUST take ALL their projects out from 7pm to 9pm, including animals! 4H kids must miss the act & fight the crowds entering for the act... guess the fair is not about those kids in 4H...

What kind of music does a majority of Janesville listen to -- including TEENAGERS?
Oh. That's why most of these are country acts. For some reason the fair wants to attract a crowd.
So, how are they going to handle the overflow with Corbin Bleu?

You'd think that the fair is about revenue. That being said, don't you think that they'd try to find someone under 60 or a group who would appeal to the younger croud. Hmmmm.

I have wrote to the fair board in the past, they don't listen, it is Bush Politics, where they decide what we like. I enjoy going to the county fairs, I just have to go to Walworth.

Well, I sent off my email with my suggestions and real name to the Fair people. I suggest everyone else do the same so they know that a change is due.
By the way, stayfocused, its "cojones" not "kahunas".

I THINK THE LINE UP IS ALL ABOUT FINDING ACTS THAT WILL CREATE REVENUE AND I WILL TELL YOU THAT CORBIN BLEU WILL BE A SELL OUT. AS FOR OTHER GROUPS......GO AND CHECK OUT RIVERFEST. THERE'S LOTS OF GREAT ACTS THERE.

It's so easy to complain about this kind of thing when you have no real knowledge of it. When in college, I was in charge of planning musical events, including a large concert for the campus in the Spring.
Unfortunately, most of the artist that people recognize or request ask way to much money. Some of them won't do a concert at a college or fair type of event, and some are booked years in advance or not touring at all.
If you want a recognizable act, stop complaining about the entrance fee, because it will go way up to fufill your request. Especially if you're thinking hip-hop.
The people who plan these events want them to be a success, I'm sure. It's a lot easier to sit back and criticize than get involved and realize the difficulties faced.

So it looks like most of the comments are negative. You all may have a point about the OLD acts, in that case tell it to a board member. Or email it to the fair office. Unless you just want to comment on this blog so nobody knows who you are.
If you have the KAHUNAS put your name behind it send it to the fair. rcfair@inwave.com or I am sure you can send it to the fairs booking agent as well at that address.
Was it not last year Rodney Atkins was at the fair ?....and some of the same people said "Who is he?".....

Irish - I agree about the younger local bands. Last summer downtown, during one of the festivals, I saw a band at Quotes that were teenagers. They played classic rock and they were awesome. Can't remember the name of the band, but I really enjoyed listening to them.

Okay, so the teenyboppers and the country fans are covered.
Where's the R&B, Rock, Metal, Oldies, Hip Hop and Rap, Funk, Punk and Indie for the rest of us?
Showcasing local bands would be great and not just the same old bar bands... there are some great younger bands out there that need exposure, too.

Dear chelleandlou,
You are quite the authority on the Rock County Fair as well as many other topics that you really know nothing about. Maybe you should go back to school (oh, I know you have your associate degree in dairy science) and learn how to spell instead of wasting your time posting on here.

More money to spend at Stoughton's Syttende Mai festival, Riverfest and the State Fair.

Gosh - I really hate running water and electricity...who was the wise guy who went and removed my pump and candles?
*
Actually StaceyU2 - the fairgrounds might be the last place in Rock County where running water and electricity is a luxury.
*
Why not bring in all the local/regional bands to perform throughout the afternoon, before those major headliners like Ronnie Milsap take the stage?
*
I agree with the other comments, no need to have a beer garden at the fair, but do something to improve the site, the conditions, the entertainment, the safety...the place looks like a barnyard.

The Rock County 4-H fair is not allowed to serve alcohol due to the agreement that was made when the land was donated to the fair.
In addition to that, a youth fair has no need for alcohol to be accessible or served on the premesis. It's one of the things I like about Rock County over the other fairs.

Someone told me that the reason Rock County fair doesn't get the big hot ticket numbers to perform is because they don't have as much money as some of the other fairs. They said the reason for that is because the Rock County fair is not allowed to serve alcohol on the grounds. I don't know if this is true, but it would explain why riverfest and Walworth County fair always have such bigger better entertainers.

This is typical of Rock County. Last years music was pretty good, because "Foreignor" was there. I am a "Classic Rock" lover by nature, so all I ask is that we have alittle more variety. After all, we are "ROCK" County, not "Country" County. I will still go to the fair, but not to see the entertainment. Pretty Lame this year...just my opinion.

Wow, The fair has BOTH kinds of music! Country AND western! Another year to pass on attending. No local entertainment, no variety, no reason to go spend way too much money on an otherwise overpriced poor fair! thanks!

To StaceyU2: I was NOT finding fault. I happen to enjoy the fair no matter who the entertainment is. I was simply saying that Lady Antebellum is not well known so that is probably why they scheduled them for Sunday. Besides, as an American, I AM allowed my own opinion!

Lady Antebellum is a new up and coming country band. I actually don't listen to country on a regular basis, but I know who they are. They were recently nominated for some major awards (new group, maybe??). They have a music video out and at least one album. There current hit "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" is getting a lot of play time. The group is 2 guys and a girl, all 20ish, all extremely talented and diverse. I normally would not go to a country concert, but I will definately be there as will several teens I know who don't normally listen to country.

Well, I'd love to see the 60yr olds see Corbin Blue. (Sarcasm) I know the teenage girls will be happy. Corbin Bleu is very hot in the teen scene right now. Oh, yeah, I'm not 60 but will definately enjoy Randy Travis. I have never heard of Lady Antebellum, though, so that is a mystery. Probably why it is the Sunday performance.

We have heard for a few years now that fewer acts are touring and popular performers are getting harder and harder to book. Yet the Walworth County Fair and others seem to come up with very good lineups year after year. Has the Rock County fair board ever considered using their booking agent? This is absolutely the worst lineup yet.
