One of the gunmen in a Nov. 9 Footville bank robbery was sentenced Wednesday to 13 years and one month in federal prison, five years probation and ordered to make restitution of $950.

Curtis Seaberry, 21, Rockford, Ill., carried a semi-automatic, .22-caliber pistol into Mid-American Bank and went behind the counter to take money from teller drawers, Assistant U.S. Attorney Dan Graber said.

Troy Thomas, 35, Rockford, carried a shotgun and watched the front of the bank while Seaberry and Donald Thompson, 21, also of Rockford, grabbed more than $5,400 in cash and gave it to Matthew Evans, Graber said.

The men fled in a black Lexus, which Thomas stole in Beloit, and then switched to Thomas’ brown Mercury, which was stopped by a Rock County sheriff’s deputy near the state line. Seaberry ran from the car while Thomas, Thompson and Skye Archambault raced off in the Mercury toward Rockford with the deputy in pursuit. The car ran out of gas just before reaching the city limits, Graber said.

Seaberry was caught shortly after he bolted from the car. Thomas, Thompson and Archambault were apprehended at Thomas’ car.

"suspect sentenced"

He`s still merely a "suspect"? - And sentenced?

Wow.

I don't see them billing the perps for the costs. I don't know how much inmates earn per hour in the liscense plate stamping shop, but I'll bet it isn't minimum wage.Perhaps they could look at it as a successful training day, since nobody was hurt. Cops got practice chasing and apprehending dirtbags, and schools and businesses had an opportunity to test their emergency plans.

Glad to see some more dirtbags are being locked up for awhile. How dumb do you need to be to think your going to get away with robbing a bank these days. Maybe in the old west, but not these days. I think they watched to many movies.

JCK, that's about as funny as bank robbery gets. At least nobody was hurt (which is fortunately even true in the majority of armed bank robberies).
.
I'm not sure how often police agencies actually bill criminals for the costs of apprehending them, but it probably isn't a wise approach to criminal rehabilitation. They were already broke; why do you think they robbed the place?

Not even enough gas to get out of town? That ranks down there next to "writes robbery note on paper containing home address" and "fled on foot in fresh fallen snow".

They fled but ran out of gas before they hit the city limits. I know there's nothing funny about armed bank robbery but that made me laugh anyway.

They are sentencing them on the robbery charge but are they going to make them pay anything toward the tons of money it cost Rock county and other agencies to search for them. they had to close down schools and get just about every shift out looking for these dummies. I would like to see them have to pay restitution for that cost as well.
