UPDATE: Armed robbery in residential Janesville neighborhood
From the WCLO newsroom:
Janesville police are investigating an armed robbery that happened at about 2:15 Thursday morning in a residential neighborhood.
According to updated information in a news release from the Janesville Police Department, officers responded to Glen and Augusta Streets for a report of an armed robbery. Two Janesville men ages 22 and 25 were walking on the sidewalk near this intersection when approached by two male suspects. The suspects had gotten out of a small white car with loud exhaust, possibly with a roof rack.
Both victims were ordered to the ground at gunpoint, had their wallets taken, and then kicked while they were on the ground. Both received minor injuries, but declined treatment.
One suspect is described as being possibly Hispanic, about six feet tall, thin, wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and displaying the weapon.
The second suspect is described as taller than six feet, thin with light colored hair and scruffy light colored facial hair, wearing a brown coat.
After the robbery the suspects drove north on Milton Avenue.
Anyone with information should contact Janesville Police at 755-3100 or Janesville Area Crimestoppers at 756-3636.

Here's a thought...regardless of the law...if you found yourself in such a situation, and you just happen to have a gun... would you think twice about using it to protect yourself?
.
I would guess not.
.
Therefore, since it is easier to beg forgiveness... than to ask permission...we should all start packing immediately...please check back six months from now so we can ascertain the significance of this uncontrolled study.

lussonee: Um, not all spots on Green Forest Run are crime ridden....but I sure can bet which complex has the most police calls. And I am pretty sure its not the one I live in or the one with senior citizens and I feel pretty safe where I am because they are well-cared for. I'm sure there are more areas in this town with more issues than here.
As for crime related to the economy...puh-lease. I've been to large cities (Atlanta, Milwaukee, Chicago, etc) and they've always had crime as when there are a lot of people, these things usually do happen. Look at what's been going on with Madison lately. I do think a lot of people in this area need to realize that Janesville is not the perfect town they think it is. Heck, even small towns have their fair share of crimes lately- I know, I grew up in one! I don't think it's the economy- it's been happening for YEARS!!! I think it's the low mentality of society!!! Ever look at the pictures of people who are convicted???
I need to stop before I say something not so nice.

If that loser Doyle and his legislative cronies hadn't blocked the Concealed Carry Permit law, those scumbags might have been worried enough that the victims could be armed that they would have decided breaking into a closed gas station or restaurant would be safer than holding up people.
.
What if the next time just kicking their victims while they are lying on the ground isn't enough to satisfy whatever sickness is in their heads?

Yes, you thought about doing bad things but your sense of responsibility kept you from doing them.

The bottom line is a crime was committed and does the reason why matter not in the eye of the law. As to job loss raising crime level yes it appears to make a big difference and it also raises suicide rates, divorce rate, as the stress of the inability to provide for your family causes problems in more areas then financial. And I can say from experience of losing a job, no place to call my own, letting my kids down, going hungry many times. I thought about ways to get the money that were not far from this, the suicide thoughts, but I didnt act on my thoughts as in reality the ones I would have done it for would not have had me nor would I have had them. As the end result would have been being locked up or dead.

The police should start their search for the suspects in the Green Forest Run area.It seems from the public records that this area is crime central. If they don't find the people who committed this crime, they certainly will find others who committed crimes.

I don't think anyone is saying these two hoods don't deserve punishment, or that drug and alcohol related crimes have anything to do with unemployment. But to say the economy has nothing to do with crime increase is just ignorant!

lets see, joblessness equals more crime as does poverty, low education, drugs, alcohol, any other addiction. take your pick. why not just bad people with bad upbringing.

There is a clear relationship between joblessness and crime, certainly property crime (less so violent crime, which correlates better with the availability of alcohol and drugs, something that is higher in good times). The fact that there is a demonstrable population effect is by no means an absolution of individuals from their moral choices. These guys chose to rob, and should be caught and punished. We don't even know if they're unemployed -- maybe they work AND have a drug habit like a certain teacher.

I know all people that are unemployed will not resort to crime, but for those who have no one to help them.... yes they will toss the moral thing aside and do what they have to.

Correlation is often not causation. If everybody who was unemployed committed crimes, you would be right. Traffic accidents go up when it snows. Do we blame the snow? No. That is because not all drivers get in accidents when it snows, therefore it is not the snow that is the fault. I am not going to win with some of you people, as you have defense attorney mentality.

I'm sure these two didn't rob for food, But you, mr. worldly, have no clue if you think the crimerate will not change due to unemployment.

For some desperate times calls for desperate measures. Morals do not put a roof over your families heads, morals do not put food on your table. People do what they need to do when their backs are against the wall. Oh but that's right localboy says economy isn't the reason the crime rate goes up, and localboy knows everything about the world's desperate people.

Ya right. I am real sure those two guys robbed those others so they could feed their kids, and give them medicine. They probably were 'feeding' their habits. Don't make excuses for criminals. We wonder why society is so screwed up.

Hey localboy - Why does crime go up when unemployment goes up?
"Lack of morality, honor, and conscience are the root cause of crime. Period" So if these "unmoral" people have jobs they don't rob to feed their families. People's morals change when their sick kids need medicine, food. You need to wake up out of your fantasy dream land. Have YOU ever lived outside of smallsville?

The economy is just a excuse. Lack of morality, honor, and conscience are the root cause of crime. Period. We always try to find some other person or thing to blame for our wrong doing. It seems as if we can rationalize anything, if we want to.

I also don't believe the economy determines whether people committ crimes. People determine whether they committ crimes.

The two young men in their early twenties were the ones that got robbed. The two white men that robbed them failed to provide their ages. "I have a gun and I am (your age here) years old! Give me all of your money or I will shoot you!"
