Three Milton City Council members scolded David Cramer, CEO of United Ethanol, after he and other plant officials gave a presentation Tuesday night.

"It’s laughable, it really is laughable, that you’re negotiating with the DNR while you’re pushing that crap into the air," council member Tom Chesmore told Cramer.

Cramer said came to the meeting to show the council and residents that the plant is being proactive in addressing concerns. Dennis Hatfield, an environmental consultant for the plant, explained the Department of Natural Resource's permit process. He said the plant is taking action by participating in an "extensive dialogue" with the DNR, immediately addressing alleged permit violations and installing a new, $2 million regenerative thermal oxidizer.

Chesmore and others questioned why it's taken two years to come this far. But council member Lynda Clark spoke in defense of the plant.

"I personally as a council member feel like United Ethanol has done their testing, they are working diligently with the DNR, they’re replacing what needs to be replaced," she said.

Negligence is now way to go though life...
after the fact we are cleaning up our screw up? Gimme a break! If it stinks there is an air pollution issue plain and simple.
Don't fight to save these kind of jobs when they can't keep the pollution in check.

Chesmore and the others are only speaking up for those that have to put up with the smell and the health hazards that came with this plant. Do a google search on ethanol stack emissions and see what you find...its scary. No one can defend that fact that its taken 2 years for them to even admit they have a problem let alone get around to fixing it. Instead of blaming the DNR for all thier problems United Ethanol needs to step up and do whats right. Its called personnel responsibilty or don't we hold anyone to that anymore?

Way to go council! Your finally waking up to the unpleasantly smell other than your normal everyday coffee smell. It's unfortunate though that one council member is "dupped" into believing United Ethonal.
