From the WCLO newsroom:

A smokey house fire in Janesville was discovered by a police officer on routine patrol.

Officer Brad Rau was able to sound the alarm and firefighters were called to 903 McKinley around 2:22 Friday morning. The house is vacant.

Fire officials are expected to have more information on the possible cause of the fire and damage estimates later Friday morning.

Oh the cynical always have their voice. Well, the rest of us also have a voice. Great job, Brad.

ListenToMe said, “Nice job? He was driving around on patrol and stumbled upon it. That seems to imply that Joe Citizen wouldn't have called 911. Nothing against Brad, but it was luck.”
Luck? Yes, in a way. I think it was “Mark Twain” who said, “Luck is the residue of diligence." Key word, diligence. I don’t know how many, if any of you, have ever had the opportunity to ride along on a Police patrol or have attended a Citizen Police Academy. I have, and I will emphatically state that it gave me even more of an appreciation of what police officers do.
Thank you Officer Brad Rau. Great job.

Nice work Brad. Much better than the time I was home from college and while leaving my buddy's parents place found you and your partner hiding out in the bushes trying to bust our "underage" (we were all 21) drinking party.

Heh. The owner was probably trying to get rid of the house and the officer thwarted THAT, didn't he?

Take that, people who talk about JPD not doing their jobs. They are on the street to just solve murders.

Granted, it was an empty house, but still a job well done.

He was doing his duty, and keep up the good work!
