More GM-related layoffs in Janesville
From the WCLO newsroom:
Another Janesville General Motors supplier says it's closing its doors by December 23rd.
Atlanta-based Allied Automotive Group filed notice Monday with the Department of Workforce Development that it's laying off 117 workers.
The DWD's Rapid Response Team will help those workers with training, update skills, and find new jobs.

John McCain wanted to post here too, but had technical difficulties. So to quote John's speech:
" A good friend of mine told me that they have the internet on computer now. I guess I should upgrade from my Morse code machine"

Comparing Flint to Janesville is silly.
"In the 1980s, the rate of deindustrialization accelerated with local GM employment falling from a 1978 high of 80,000 to under 23,000 by the late 1990s."

Yes, I have been to Flint several times and certain sections of Flint are not in good shape, just as Janesville (4th ward) has bad sections. But, Flint has 6 Universities/Colleges, home to jobs in banking (JP Morgan and Citizens Corp), Health Care (3 major medical systems)GM and Delphi, and is only a city of 114,000 people. The city didn't fold up just because GM reduced the workforce. GM might have been inclined to stay there if the Union had not have been so militant, and was willing to change with the business.

Maybe Obama will ask them people to help out as America sends our troops, and money into Africa. He could careless about American workers. He is laying the ground work today/ As I was watching Obama's speech from Chester PA. I heard Obama say this morning Quote Obama we will have to improve America's standing in the world, and that means spending some money in the world. It will not be clear to everyone so you will have to remind people that we are spending 10 billion dollars a day in Iraq already. Obama is getting ready, and prepping everyone for our military being in Africa I believe. I believe he is using a method psychologist call conditioning the masses. That is what he will offer College People student aid to do is going to Africa.

From Reuters News Service: ( http://www.reuters.com/article/ousiv/idU... ) "In addition to its equity stake, the U.S. government is also being asked to provide support for the GM-Chrysler merger by taking over some $3 billion in pension obligations under the terms of a proposal now before the government for review..." There are going to be hundreds of thousands of people thrown into unemployment in the next few months. For those who voted for George Bush our country has finally arrived where we've been headed - into bankruptcy. The great depression will look like a tea party compared to the upcoming times we're headed for in the US and the world at large. Trickle down economics and fear mongering are no way to run a country. The time for thinkers has come. The people must write their political representatives and demand honesty, integrity and transparency in government. No more highly paid lobbyists acting as proxies for huge corporations. No more Wall Street and corporate executives taking huge salaries and bonuses because of their avarice. I wonder how many people in Janesville wish to continue with trickle down economics. Read Paul Krugman's editorials in the New York Times. The man teaches at Princeton University and just won the Nobel Prize for his work on economics. America can no longer afford deceit and lies in politics. Look around you and see what's happening to the middles class.

Localboy, I hope that there is no downfall of Janesville. But have you been to Flint? It is in bad shape. I was there in July and it was not a pretty sight. Flint has never recovered from GM leaving and it shows. I am concerned that Janesville will suffer the same fate.

TheJoker - The closing of General Motors will have an IMPACT on Janesville, but will not cause a DOWNFALL. A person could argue the city will not fall down due to GM closing, but it will suffer an impact. Flint was stripped of GM facilities in the 80's, but is still there and still operating. Flint is an extreme example due to the large percentage of employment vs. population. Janesville is not in the same situation. Janesville will suffer in the short term, but will survive.

Of course the city leaders are powerless to this area economic slide. The town is only 63,000. Why would they have any clout with these companies?

gstrube are you really utube I also read it and did not find the statement! the real problem in this country are the false accusations and the choices we have for our leader is nil. the political deceit is so sad as we well I have not a clue on what is true and what is false. The only thing i know is that what is in the news as far as past involvements with shady characters and dishonest fund raising, corruption what ever it may be. But then it is denied as to knowledgement of the individuals arrested or confronted A real person would admit their part and deal with the public opinion on it.. I want an true and honest person to lead the country I live in and love one that truly cares about our country and the people and not one that is self serving and denies any past or present connection to the facts. But that isnt going to happen any time soon.......

gstrube - I read your article link, and not once did I see McCain's advisor say we should "let the auto industry die". You even put it in quotations, which assumes a direct quote. Your post is fallacy, and is the reason people are confused. I am sure your intentions were politically motivated.
For the record; THE MCCAIN ADVISOR SAID: I DON'T THINK THE GOVERNMENT CAN RESCUE THE INDUSTRY". In the interest and protection of the tax payer, she said the government can 'assist' the auto industry, but not be in a position to completely take over (rescue) it.

With the Suburban line going down, this means that Isuzu will be the largest truck producer in Southern Wisconsin.
Has the State or any local officials tried to keep Isuzu in Janesville??
