Theres alot worse intersections in Rock Co than the 26/N one. I put the River Rd/ HWY 11 ramp more dangerous since the cars heading west crest the hill real close to the river rd entrance. The Afton rd one isnt much better.

Big problem with the 26/N one is people get real impatient to cross and take chances.

Most of the trouble is caused by those that speed thorough these intersections.

There should be a stoplight at this intersection. How many more need to die before this happens??

There has got to be a way to slow traffic on 26 down. Yes, the traffic crossing at N are the culprits, but it truly is difficult to cross there. If the DOT won't reroute or redesign the intersection, they should slow 26 traffic to 30 MPH. It will irritate some to slow down, but it would save lives.

I dread that intersection, and hubby drives it everyday. Everytime I hear the sirens screaming North from town, I shudder...

When I was hauling my horse to Jefferson for drill practice every week...that intersection was next to impossible to negotiate! I would be turning left onto 26 from N. Not only do you have the traffic on 26 to time (especially hard with those coming up over the hill...it doesn't leave you much time to judge their distance & speed), but an even bigger problem was cars on N at the stop sign across from me. You have two different drivers....both trying to judge traffic from three different directions. And even when the coast was totally clear...I would pull my truck & trailer out onto 26 only to find another vehicle coming over the hill at highway speed. I would have to tromp on the gas and get over as far to the right as I dare while hoping that they wouldn't plow into the back of my trailer! Driving like this makes it real hard to keep my horse "happy" about getting in his trailer to go for a ride.

This has always been a killer intersection. 99.9999% of the time the vehicle on N causes the wreck.

I remember as a youngster living on HWY 26 at the edge of Milton (before it became a metropolis) and seeing a 1960's vintage chevy convertible (the kind the made in Janesville) with tin cans dragging and a just married sign on the rear.

No more than 10-15 minutes later M.F.D. trucks are speed racing north on 26. Being curious we took a drive north and the sight was lifechanging.

The bride and groom were both (I believe) dead. Lots of red on a nice white car. I can't forget it.

An overpass would fix it, but the bridges over Otter creek have natural springs by thier foundations so, THAT may create a challenge to the DOT design.

The City/State and or DMV need to seriously consider re-consrtucting this intersection! A temporary stop light should be put up! These two roads have to be re-configured! There is no other option! How many accidents/and life changing tragedies have to happen here before something is done?

I have responded to many accidents and treated many severe injuries there. Every single accident I have gone to there has been caused by a car that was coming from hwy N. Usually they pull out in front of a semi-truck and they definately don't have enough time to stop. My first accident there was someone who pulled in front of a truck hauling beets...yes BEETS. It scared the crap out of me because the intersection looked as though it was covered in blood...but it was just the smushed beets.

The reason for all the accidents is all the jack a** drivers who blow the stop sign at Hwy N. They either ignore the stop sign or misjudge how much time they have before cars driving on hwy 26 reach the intersection. They need to realize that people are driving anywhere from 45-65mph through the intersection and need to give themselves enough time to cross intersection. People driving hwy 26 don't have enough time to stop when the dumb a** from hwy n pulls out in front of them. People on N treat the intersection as if it were an in town stop sign. It's not...it is in the middle of a highway. The actual speed limit in the intersection is 45mph. It is 55mph just yards before it.

That is a very dangerous place. We have some hunting property by Fort and when we go up there I'm always extra cautious. Keeping my eyes open and my foot ready to brake or whatever I need to do. I've never had a near miss there and I never want to. I think 26 is just a bad road all together. I avoid it whenever I can!

We have lived on Cty Rd N for 3 yrs and we lived here 15 yrs ago also, the wrecks on N and 26 are horrible, we have seen so many. I think they need a stop light there, I just heard it was a semi and he wiped out 4 cars, he was carrying sheet metal. There is alot of traffic being rerouted past our house, sheet metal is all over 26 we heard,,,,pray for them...
