From the WCLO newsroom:

Teacher contract talks in the Parkview School District are moving ahead to mediation.

Interim District Administrator Patrick Kennedy says the top issue is health insurance. The district management and school board are proposing a new type of insurance under Mercy and Dean heath care.

He says teachers had signed a two-year retroactive contract in May 2007. The district and teachers began work on a new contract in November and continued through early summer. Kennedy says the district contacted a mediator and agreed to September 9 and 11 as mediation dates.

If the district and teachers union can't agree during mediation they will go to arbitration. An arbitrator will examine both proposals and if a compromise can't be reached, the arbitrator will pick one.

I personally know many elementary teachers in the Parkview District and you won't find a more professional, hard working group of educators. Offer a fair settlement to all of your teachers even touoght you could never pay the ones that I know enough money to compensate all that they do for the children of your district.
