The cause of a fire at the Delavan Inn, at 120 West Delavan Drive, in Janesville, is under investigation. Firefighters and Janesville police responded to the scene around 11 p.m. Monday.

No injuries are reported, but the origin of the fire is suspicious.

Damage to the 24-unit motel was estimated at $15,000 including contents, according to fire officials.

Most of the fire damage was isolated to the maid's closet area and one bathroom, according to a fire department spokesman.

Residents were allowed to go back into their individuals rooms. City codes will follow up with an inspection of the building today.

After reading all the posts on this particular message board, I have a good solution to this "Delavan Inn" conundrum that the Janesville City Council will most certainly approve. Contact "outsite consultants" to spend months and months contemplating the possible solutions at great cost to the community, and then create a "roundabout" at the Delavan Inn, that will rotate the inhabitants from room to room, month to month, and ultimately spit them back out onto the street. Of course, this solution will take well over a year to achieve, as most consultant outsourcing results do. On another note...PUT IN A FRIGGIN STOPLIGHT AT WUTHERING HILLS AND MILWAUKEE STREET YOU MANIACS!!!!!! At the very least, Good Lord man, put up a temporary stop sign. I mean, seriously...this intersection is "SO" dangerous, but nothing has been done for WELL over a year since the dangerous accident that spurned this debate occurred??? And these delays are ALL due to bullcrap bureaucracy that pretends to actually care about the community. CIVIC SWINE.

And where are all those people going to go when it is razed or burnt down? Maybe come live with some of you negative people on here. I am amazed at how the words "Before you post a comment, consider this:, it should say, stick to the article, don't cut people down and quit making fun of people who have a hard time making it nowadays!

The owner doesn't care about the place, he lives in Florida. He just turned over mgmt. to his son who cares even less about the place. LET IT BURN! Maybe it can be razed and turned into the new skateboard park.

I think that place is disgusting and needs to be cleaned up. It could probably be quite the profit if it had the right owners and the right tennants. It has a lot of space and parking and it would be a great place for a nice bar and reastraunt.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it was a case of arson and hear that maybe one of the tenants set it, possibly under the direction of another individual? Just a hunch.

the damage came from my Black Light/Posters, Satin Sheets, and Velvet wall coverings. I paid a lot of money for those things and the Ladies down at the Gin Mill really like them.

by the way she wasn't a maid...she was my lady

It should have read "The fire swept through and did $15,000 worth of improvements."

Reading $15,000 in damage, I assumed is was pretty much leveled to the ground with no actual physical building left.
That was one hell of an expensive maid's closet.

Isn't that above the Gin Mill? I thought they closed that down years ago cause of the prositution that was busted there! I would question that on being worth $15,000 it looks like a dump!

"I have known MORE than a few maids in my day that accidentally lit their closets on fire". I expect to hear that very line in the next speech from Joe Biden.

Bellagio, I wonder what the meaning behind your presumptive "hmmmmmmm" is? Is it because the fire occurred at one of Janesville's only 4-Star flophouses? Yes, yes, I agree that the Delavan Inn is no Northern Town Motel. It is not even close to the quality of the Lannon Stone Motel. But even still, presumption should be left to the investigators, no? I mean, a fire in a maid's closet could happen anywhere. I have known MORE than a few maids in my day that accidentally lit their closets on fire, but most of those were illegals who didn't understand fire codes. I once saw a valet at the Janesville Country Club trying to light a road flare in the coat room, and as curious as I was as to why he was doing such a thing, I said nothing. It was none of my business. Luckily, there was no fire, and the Janesville elite were able to return to their homes with their coats unscathed. The only thing I find curious about this story is that there was a fire at the Delavan Inn, and that there was ACTUALLY $15,000 dollars worth of damage, including contents. Is the entire Delavan Inn even worth $15,000? Who knew there were such dignitaries staying there, with such expensive contents. But this is an election year, so my sympathies go out to any of those who were adversely effected by this tragedy, and as always...God Bless America.
