DNR: Ethanol plant on the road to compliance
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources believes United Ethanol is on its way to compliance.
That was the conclusion of a nearly four-hour meeting today between DNR officials and representatives of the Milton plant. The “enforcement conference” discussed alleged permit violations by the plant detailed in a June report.
Though the meeting got heated at times, the two sides seemed satisfied with the outcome. They agreed the plant needs to improve its record-keeping system.
Pam Kober, environmental enforcement specialist, said the plant’s new regenerative thermal oxidizer, an environmental management system and changes to the plant’s latest permit should bring the plant into compliance.
Kober will summarize the meeting in a letter to the plant, and then she and other DNR officials will decide what further action, if any, the department should take concerning the alleged permit violations.
