MADISON, Wis. (AP) Michelle Obama says the outcome of the presidential race can be determined by young people and women.

Speaking Monday on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Michelle Obama tailored her speech to the many women and college students in the crowd of about 1,800.

She urged young people who are excited about her husband Barack Obama's campaign to register to vote, cast their ballot and get 10 or 20 others to do the same.

Her husband was in Green Bay to give a separate speech focusing on the economy.

Michelle Obama also planned to host a rally in the Milwaukee suburb of West Allis and a roundtable economic discussion with women in Wausau.

About 80 women stood behind Michelle Obama as she spoke in Madison.

Don't mean to burst anybody's bubble here... but we are (and have been) targets of 'terrorists' for a few decades now.

I’m also pretty sure he won’t have the power to take your ‘family values’ from you and your family. If you fear gay marriage, then don’t get ‘gay married’. Your family values should stay within your family

The fear of ‘overgomvernmentalism’ is also interesting. Restoring our regulatory standards and system of checks & balances doesn’t seem too threatening to me. Who needs the FDA.. or public education funding, etc. anyway? I don’t see how so many could prefer administrations such as the current. Deregulation and the doctrine of the ‘Unitary Executive’ to leave the power in the hands of one man, unchecked seems a bit more threatening. Now reeking a bit of totalitarian regimes we have previously fought to dismantle, the administration goes completely against what our country stands for.

We need change, not more deception.

The Gazette has appropriately titled the article "Michelle Obama targets women, young voters" if Obama wins, we will all become targets, of terrorists, lost family values, overgomvernmentalism. Whether you like it or not, Obama is about change.. Taking all your extra change and giving to the undeserving, those who refuse to work and stay on welfare roles, illegal immegrants. Yes Obama rocks, but do we want a rock star? Maybe we could get the Alan Parsons Project to run the country?

This is the tightest race I've seen in a long time! I'm still struggling with my choice...I happen to think BOTH candidates are excellent. Both have their shortcomings, both have their strong points. It's a tough decision and the American public needs to really look at the issues and VOTE to making their choice count!! "WHO CARES"???? You better start caring, lady, it's YOUR future!

How do you know Obama has this thing won? Do you have a crystal ball? According to the polls, it is VERY close right now. By the way, I'll have a McCain sign in my yard.

Macain referred to the economy fundamentally sound referring to the workers. I'm not real sure why she would say something like that even if it was 8 months ago she still said it and meant it.

whybesad: You're referring to a comment made, what like 8 months ago in Madison, right? Should we start listing the ridiculous remarks made by McCain recently? "The fundamentals of our economy are strong..." Move on...if that's the best you've got, Obama has got this thing won already.

Michelle Obama is now for the first time in her life PROUD to be an American. WOW I guess getting an Ivy league college education and having a nice lifestyle doesn't make you proud to be an American. Geez this woman is a typical left winger. Just an angry person pointing fingers but, yet does nothing about it. Macain's wife has gone to African and has Volunteered her time and money to helping those people for a cause she believes in. Then you have Michelle Obama saying she for the first time in her life is proud to be an American?.

I clearly hope the American people see the state that we are in, and vote to turn it around. And NO, McCain won't do that. Hats off to Michelle for getting out there on her own!! Oh, by the way; where's "Barbie McCain"?????

Marymac4: Knowing you as well as I do (or think I do), I am surprised at your "who cares" comment. Obama is the only candidate willing to take a serious look at the lack of insurance coverage or other funding for substance problems.

I agree.....it's people like marymac that will be the downfall of this country yet. Hopefully enough people will realize that Obama is smart enough to run this country and elect him. He has run a brilliant campaign (he did beat Hillary who should have run hands down and ran a bad campaign)and will have the brilliance to select great people to be around him and is smart enough to listen to them and make good decisions after counseling with them. He is a breath of fresh. I consider myself an Obamican.

Thank you CIM! A lot of people care. This is a very important election and if people need directions or an address to make an informed decision
more power to them. It's the "who cares?" attitude that has gotten our country into the position it's in right now. PLEASE VOTE...

Not that I endorse one candidate over another one, but if you don't have something constructive to say, why do you feel that you should contribure "WHO CARES" to the conversation? It does nothing but put people on the defensive about the person each person supports and it leads to gutter back-and-forth snide remarks that makes visiting this website for local news very unenjoyable.
