The finalists will be interviewed April 23 and April 24.

The candidates include:

  • David J. Moore, deputy police chief, Janesville.

  • Bradford L. Woods, former commander, Chicago.

We have a city manager who is new blood. Let's keep David Moore who does a fine job, knows the city and the fabric it is made up of.

Wow!! Looking at past comments about the PD you would think Moore isn't part of the problem!!! Does everyone think that Moore has nothing to do with the stagnant progression (minus last great years under Mahan) of OUR PD? How could you expect different results when you make no changes, I think Docs have a diagnosis for that!!!
The best think for the PD and the city would be to look outside. I'm not a cop around here but know a few of the JPD officers and it's amazing to hear some of the things the officers go to. Sooner the "new blood" comes in and focuses on the rise in crime and less about trying to look good, we all will benefit.
To the police commission, I really hope you are looking to continue the direction Mahan has started. Don't think for a minute Moore isn't going to go back to what he was taught 30 yrs ago! JVL is growing and Moore doesn't have the experience that any of the other 3 can walk in with...It's time to make a statment to the citizens of JVL.

Just a thought...but so much is made of electing the sheriff as the top law enforcement officer of Rock County (which includes the city of Janesville) so why shouldn't we change the process to ELECT the police chief...OR change to APPOINT the sheriff...really...what's the difference?

After all...isn't it the quality of the candidate that is the bottom line? (wink, wink)

Moore has a few very important advantages, he has a lot of established credibility here and he has the skills that time can only give. His devotion to our community has been proven many times over and most importantly he has earned this by example.

Yeah I agree, lets leave someone from here to do the job. I came from Racine and I'm sorry but I'm really not thrilled about even thinking of having a Racine police chief coming HERE. Especially with how horrible of a job is done there with handling things. Just say no.

I never gamble, and I don't think the police and fire commission should either. Make Dave the chief and be done with it.

Don't you think the best way to decide a new police chief is to have a shoot-out? Ok, use paint-ball guns, but the last man standing gets to be the new police chief. Sounds good to me!

We have had new faces and not much made with it. Experience and camaraderie makes a big difference in the way thing get done. I am not a police friendly individual yet Moore is a good man and would make for a good leader within his department. Yes sometimes new blood makes for the better but IMO not this time.

Dave Moore is the person for the job. I won't go in to details, but I am confident he is the right person...

Do we really want to go back to the way things were under George Brunner? It would be a huge setback for the city to revert back to that mentality. This city needs new ideas and leadership to evolve for the future. Wake up people. This isn't the same city it was 2 years ago let alone 10 years ago.

Let's choose based on the qualities and qualifications the applicant brings to the job. Deputy chief Moore has the qualifications and also the qualities required. He has worked tirelessly for the Jaensville PD. There is nothing wrong with promoting from within when the candidate is as qualified and dedicated as deputy chief Moore. An added plus - no one knows the city of Janesville better than Mr. Moore.

We tried outside. He didn't stay long. Not saying these guys are from anywhere sunny, warm, or glamorous but it's time to give inside a shot. From what little I know of Deputy Chief Moore, he's quite qualified.

I think it would be great to have "new blood" in our city :) Moore is a great canidate, but maybe it's time for something new.

Why don't you wait and see who is most qualified after the interviewing process before (as usual in this city) speculating who is best for Janesville? Jeez....got love Janesberg.
