Janesville man in critical condition after Beloit shooting

A Janesville man remained in critical condition tonight after an overnight shooting in Beloit.

Anthony T. Stewart, 24, of 314 McKinley St., Janesville, was flown by helicopter Friday morning to University Hospital, Madison, Capt. William Tyler said.

Another man, Antoine T. Green, 25, of 1529 Oak Street, Beloit, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, he said. A spokeswoman at University Hospital could not confirm that Green was there.

The two men were apparently involved in a gun fight at the house Green and others were living in, Tyler said. A group that included Stewart came to the home late Thursday or early Friday, forced its way in and attempted to rob the occupants, Tyler said. Shots were fired between the two groups, he said.

The group did not randomly choose the Beloit house, and the incident might have been drug related, Tyler said.

ihavealife: search CCAP for Stewart, Anthony, birthdate 8/9/1984, and uncheck the box for parties without a birth date (I found none clearly tied to him). He appears as both Anthony T. Stewart and Anthony Terrell Stewart, as does the other guy born in 1973, so searching on just the name brings up both of them, and searching on the full middle name will exclude those bearing just the initial.
.
The heroin case is 2005CF000711, and the cocaine case is 2001CF002138. The robbery with use of force case, relevant to this discussion, is 2001CF002724. Charges were dismissed as part of the treatment agreement for the cocaine case.
.
(Don't worry, I used to do internet searches professionally.)

some people do less time in prison as to mandantory release date, earned release programs, getting sentence modifiers and conning their way through prison programs to earn release etc: etc: and some do all their time and more.

I hope the gazette reports an incident that happened friday night and the sick person who did it as I know what happened and there is a police incident on it and and an arrest.....Maybe the JPD will release the info in their 2 week rundown of arrests as the victim isn't a gang member nor does she sell or do drugs.....

coach, if you look at his record he was given RECAP treatment in lieu of jail time for the 2002 <5g coke conviction, but this probably invalidated him for similar lenience for the 2005 heroin charge. He was put into the Wisconsin prison system for four years and released after three and change indicating good performance as a prisoner. Personally, I think this speaks to the limitations of prison as a behavior modifier, and simply underlines the mystery of why people advocate it as the one-size-fits-all solution. If anything, his stint in prison prepared him for a graduation to a more violent phase in his criminal career.

Here is another example of the terrible job the Rock County DA's office is doing. This young man has been involed in possession with intent to deliver Cocaine and Heroin - yet he is walking the streets. I wonder what control David O'Leary has on his office staff. Do they EVEN care? I hope someone runs against O'Leary so we can have justice served here in Rock County.

IHAVEALIFE...to tell you the truth, any "city" life scares me! But, then again, I live out in the back forties where noises and visitors are far and few between. So, when I go to any town, including little ole Footville, I am always a bit off. So, my point is, I think that it all depends on how you live yourself, and what environments you are used to that make your mind up on what a certain city is like. Yes, some are more dangerous than others, but I think that just comes with the general numbers of the city's population, not the "name" of the city. JMO And I think it very rude of some to generalize a city's worth on a few bad seeds. Some people work very hard for their communities, and I am sure when things like this are said their hearts break with the thoughts that all their hard work is being done in vain and not recognized as it should be. Basically in today's age, no matter where you go, you need to be very aware of your surroundings. Period.

ihavealife: I'm not sure if you are asking me a question or telling me that you think Beloit is the problem. Personally, I support Beloit. I was born there, was raised there and visit there several times weekly. I have family who still live there and it broke my heart to see my childhood home sold a few months ago. My mom entered an assisted living facility in Beloit and there was no way that I could physically or financially handle a four-bedroom Victorian home by myself. Even though I no longer reside in Beloit, my heart and soul are still there. And, the plan is to one day bury my remains there. Beloit is my "home, sweet home".

For every bad thing that happens in Beloit, 100 good deeds are done. People helping neighbors, people supporting their kids, people trying to earn a living. And I would say the same is true in Janesville. Some of you "frequent posters", maybe "constant posters" is more accurate...please think before you type. It doesn't seem like a lot to ask.

Janesvillean and carlitosway: Where are you getting information regarding Stewart's record? I checked the Circuit Court records and only found a couple of minor charges. I believe one was for going through a yellow light and the other was obstruction. There is another Anthony T. Stewart with many cases, but he would be in his 30s. This Anthony T. Stewart is just 24.

Typically what happens. These guys commit so many crimes in Beloit that the officers on BPD recognize them all the time so they move to Janesville to continue the criminal behavior.

"Barbarism is the natural state of mankind. Civilization is unnatural. It is a whim of circumstance. And barbarism must always ultimately triumph."
— Robert E. Howard, Beyond the Black River (1935)
I don't doubt that time will prove this adage true. While much of the animalistic violence in the Janesville and Beloit area has historically been among the players, it often spills out to affect the uninvolved, and will do so more as the economy gets worse. In any case, we had all better ready ourselves to protect our own from that which government, which does best at picking up the pieces after an incident and doling out handouts (often misappropriately to the self-entitled unworthy), cannot save us from. Hazah!

he has had mutiple beloit addresses also as that is where he is from but he is now a resident of Janesville so his behavior is part of Janesville. Why blame what or where they came from It is the individual not the city who is committing the crimes.....JMO he is a threat to society no matter where he lives.

Stewert has a long history of criminal behaviors. What angers me is they get sentenced to a year in RCJ plus probation and when they violate their probation they get credit for time served, Now this is wrong as that is part of the original sentence and probation after serving that time There should be no credit given after the sentence was imposed and served as they violated their probation not the time already served Just my opinion. If I get 1 year in county jail plus 4 years probation my revocation should do every bit of the 4 years. Not get time served credited to my due sentence. IMO

Yet another double-standard will come of this....The shooters will not legally be able to possess a gun in the future but multi-convicted drunk drivers are able to continue driving and be in possession of motor vehicles.....total hypocrisy.

It's funny people from Janesville talk bad about Beloit all of the time, but yet, it's one of your 'own' that had to come to Beloit to try and rob someone. I happen to work with Antoine and he's one of the nicest guys I know. I don't know the whole story of what happened so I don't make assumptions, but it's obvious most of the posters here will.

Stewart has quite a record for a 24-year-old. Guilty, coke poss. Read in, robbery with force. Guilty, bail jumping. Read in, resisting, obstructing, poss. coke. Guilty, obstructing. Guilty, manufacture/deliver heroin. (Oddly, both he and a man 11 years older are named precisely the same.) Green only has one Wisconsin prior, a traffic citation.
.
truecitizen, both Janesville and Beloit exceed the crimes per capita mean for Wisconsin. Janesville has higher property crime, though, while Beloit has higher violent crime.

I guess I could think of lots to say inappropriately about this news story, but I won't. So wrong, how this stuff happens so much in a community as small as Beloit (or Janesville for that matter). This area is bascially 'hicksville' and we have way too much gang, drugs, and other major crimes happening here for our general population totals, don't you all think so? Maybe it's time to frikin' change that somehow! I don't know, but I'll bet Beloit has about the same number of shots-fired calls to 911, as does cities like Madison or Appleton, which are much larger.
