JANESVILLE—Three incumbents and challenger Frank Perrotto were elected Tuesday to fill the four open seats on the Janesville City Council.

Incumbent George Brunner received the most votes with 4,024; incumbent Bill Truman received 3,817; challenger Frank Perrotto received 3,026; and incumbent Russ Steeber, 2,893.

Nine candidates were on the ballot, and write-in candidate Julie Backenkeller joined the race several weeks ago for a field of 10.

bobb1951, you either don't know anything about B'moon or you are just like her. You should pray for the former.

Good one, Zoom. Expect her to claim she lost due to a fraudulent election.

What's interesting is: most or all the votes she gets is a result of name recognition. But at the same time, people understanding what she really is works against the power of all that name recognition.

Just an average person with that amount of name recognition would have been elected by now.

Briarmoon is actually providing a public service. More people probably go to the polls just to vote against her.

jvlreader - I agree!! Do you think she will finally get the message? How many failed attempts? I don't agree with all of the tax projects proposed, but I do not want a nut job on the council, and I think the people agree....

The best thing about the election is NO Briarmoon. Maybe she will understand she is not wanted.

If you didn't vote yesterday, you can't complain if the changes you wanted didn't happen. Not everyone is going to like everyone on the city council. It seems to be a thankless job, especially here in Janesville. However, the list of people wanting to be on the city council always seems to be very small. It seems to me that the only way people are going to stop complaining (oh wait, this is Janesville...I meant complain less) is if more people are willing to step forward and be willing to subject themselves to the constant criticism of many residents in this town and yet still want to represent the residents. Quit whining and run for city council. How difficult could it be? If you think they are all spending our tax money foolishly and you think you can stop it, get on the city council. Getting voted in should be easy if there are really that many people in Janesville as tired of it as you. On the other hand, 3 incumbants came back. Is it possible, even a little bit, that maybe they are doing what the majority wants?

City Council Agenda Packets are available on line the THURSDAY before every meeting. Review the packet, email AND call Council Members on items of concern in the packet, and then ATTEND THE MEETING. If the same few are the only ones that bother to go and speak, and Council follows what the staff tells them to do, without independent thinking, then we will continue down the same road. Be at next Monday's meeting if you have a problem with the ice arena deal - otherwise, you have no right to moan.

It's amazing how many people complain about how the City Council does not heed the will of the people, and yet those very people either didn't bother to vote or voted for the very people they didn't like. We had a perfect opportunity to remove some power hungry officials (Steeber), yet they are still voted back in. I guess the City Council must not be doing a bad job after all. Maybe the other Janesville citizens voted and not the real Janesville citizens who complain every day.

We all had better start attending council meetings as some of us have and putting more pressure on those who think they can just spend our tax dollars foolishly in these hard economic times. The days of wild spending can not continue or we will all go broke.

I am a little surprised, and disappointed, that Russ Steeber won again. He suggested, among other things, having homeowners fined if a building code violation was found during a city property assessment.

"We are in for more more foolish spending by at least one of the incumbents who won"

Let me guess... his initials wouldn't be Russ Steeber...?

I'm not amazed, just discouraged. Foolish people think local elections aren't as important as the state or federal ones, then will complain when the officials they didn't keep out of office with their votes give them $70M school referendums or $5M children's museums or ice arena replacements.

Is anyone else amazed at our low voter turnout? We had a good chance today to put some new people on the Council... - I hope people start paying attention to this stuff - it is discouraging.

Now remember, if you didn't vote today, you are not allowed to complain about decisions that the Council makes.
