Report finds $103M in waste in Milwaukee schools
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The governor and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett are taking steps that could lead to a takeover of the Milwaukee Public Schools after a report showed millions of dollars of waste in the system.
The report released Thursday says Milwaukee schools could save as much as $103 million per year if they operated more efficiently.
The report sidesteps academic issues and focuses on the school district's business operations. It says inefficiencies in purchasing, busing, food service and maintenance are costing taxpayers millions.
The report also says the district is paying too much for employee benefits and some salaries.
Doyle and Barrett would not answer questions about a takeover, but Barrett has begun visiting other cities to find out how they handle mayoral control.

Truth1 - Why don't we stand up and fight for this to not happen? I thought this was a democracy - government of the people. Why lay down and roll over? Look at the civilians of France - they fight for what they have, peacefully demonstrating to get their voices heard.

It won't be long before "benefits" will be a thing of the past for the private sector and the public sector will have to accept it too.

Probably not much. In January their "auditors gave the district a “clean” or “unqualified” opinion, which is the highest rating they can give, signifying no significant problems."

.
Of course it's easier to have oversight over a smaller system.
