Afton Road being closed for spill
Afton Road, also known as County D, is being closed near Plymouth Church Road between Janesville and Beloit at about 3:40 p.m. Friday.
Rock County 911 Center asks that motorists avoid Afton Road.
The Rock County Sheriff's Department is evacuating residents within 350 feet of an anhydrous ammonia spill that apparently occurred on a farm.
DNR officials are on scene, fire units are on scene or enroute, and a hazardous materials unit was enroute at about 4 p.m., according to a dispatcher.
An unknown number of people were taken to Janesville and Beloit hospitals with breathing difficulties and/or burning eyes. Motorists in the area also called 911 to report similar symptoms and were referred to hospitals.

My daughter lives on afton rd and they were evacuated as a precaution. 2 hrs later she returned to her home. that being said, I feel I should also write what my husband said as he is a retired farmer. Anhydrous ammonia has to be breathed in at the sight because it dissapates rapidly. The only way you could get hurt is to be directly in front of it and breathe it in as it is spilled. if you are in a house down the road or whatnot, it would not hurt you because it goes up in the air and dissipates, although it can cause some burning in your eyes just like the article said. but the fault of the accident was not with the driver but with the co. that rented a faulty " wagon"? There will probably be some fallout with the company and some lawsuits from people too. I hope everyone was alright.

I don't know who Fritz Haber is but that is not who was responsible for the spill. My biggest concern is that I live a few houses away from where this happened. Luckily, we were out of town for the weekend. But I was upset that we were not called and notified of such a spill. Luckily as well, we had taken our pets with us for our weekend away or else who knows what would have happened to them. Not even a note on the door when we returned home. Very disappointed.

Apologies for the misspelling, which is now corrected. I really don't mind people pointing out errors. And when I'm in a good mood, I don't mind owning up to them ;).

Give up on trying to help those that find the need to correct everyone's spelling and make a fool out of them. Apparently, they are too smart for the rest of us and find the need to make everyone else look like the donkey's butt when it is probably them that is the donkey's butt, that's why they can't find it.
