A masked robber demanded and received prescription drugs at Mercy Milton Pharmacy this morning, a Milton police official said.

Three employees and no customers were present when the man entered and implied he had a gun, Lt. John Conger said.

The robber is described as a white man in his 30s, about 6 feet, with an average build and medium-length brown hair, Conger said. He was wearing a burgundy shirt, blue jeans, a bucket hat, sunglasses and a painter’s mask over his face.

He was driving a gold or tan, mid- or late-90s Ford F150 pickup truck with a regular cab, no topper and a dark bug shield.

Anyone with information should call Rock County Communications at (608) 757-2244.

Its also possible this perp hit the drug store to grab as many hallucinogenic meds as he could get his hands on. The street value may be huge. Pretty brazen to pull something like this on a Saturday morning with other shoppers in close proximity. They're only open 9 to 1 on Saturdays.

Our local YMCA is just doors down the shopping strip. I'm just blocks from there. Frightening!

I'd add another aspect to JasonT's excellent point: because of our crazy drug policies, some people with legitimate longterm pain issues are not properly treated. The physicians are reluctant to prescribe these drugs because the feds keep track of them and threaten to prosecute them if they overprescribe certain drugs. It is entirely possible that this person was doing this to get such pain-killers for a legitimate medical reason.

I hope this person wasn't robbing that pharmacy for prescription drugs he or his family needed but couldn't afford. A lot of people have lost their jobs and health insurance lately. The report doesn't specify what was taken and how much. The crime is wrong, but some folks would do it for thief family if it are the only option. Just somthing to think about before you demand his head on a platter.

Until you've seen druggies on what their choice is, the sad part is what they'd do to get what they 'need.' Some will steal Rx drugs, through the pharmacy (usually an employee, but not in this case) or from homes. Some will use what they steal, some will try to sell it, then there are some who do both.

I've never done drugs, I've never know any druggies until I moved to Jville. It is way too common here. I have a good friend who was in law enforcement for nearly 20 years, leaving the field based on injuries sustained on the job. My friend has really opened my eyes to this underworld. It's sad, but it occurs much more than any of us that aren't in it can realize.

This was such a "way out there crime" that I am more prone to think the subject was addicted himself and in withdrawal rather than taking the drugs just to sell. Of course, depending on the amount of drugs he got, he may be trading a portion for heroin.

I'll probably get removed again...

I had just commented on street values. It's true that many steal prescriptions to sell on the street. I've already turned in someone that I would do again. People have prescriptions for a reason. If a person can't get their refills because they abuse the prescriptions, they need help. The doctors don't like to be the accessory to the crime of someone taking the prescriptions too much and/or selling them on the street. Some have such a high value.

prevention. im probably going to get my post removed also. i didnt get to read yours but you must have hit a nerve. in most cases if the doctor would fix the problem the person is originally getting the medication for whether its pain or otherwise, and if is fixable they might not run into these problems. or if the case is they cant afford the medication, then the prescriber should have a back up plan. but agenda is mainly give them the medication get them hooked then take it away. the bottom line is that the doctors push the medications no matter what it for the pharmisuitical companies.(an yes i probably spelled the big word wrong lol)
