Packers GM won't rule out interest in Vick

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson isn't ruling out potential interest in Michael Vick.

Asked Tuesday about the possibility of signing Vick, Thompson said the team looks "at all options at all times" but didn’t want to speculate about the odds of the team actually pursuing him.

"We look at everything," Thompson said.

Thompson typically is coy about the team’s plans, so it wasn’t immediately clear whether his comments indicated sincere interest in Vick.

Vick has been conditionally reinstated in the NFL after completing a 23-month federal sentence for running a dogfighting ring. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said Vick can sign with a team and begin playing by week six of the NFL season.

More than two dozen NFL teams have said they’re not interested in signing the 29-year-old Vick. The others have declined comment or taken a stance like that of the Packers.

The story doesn't indicate that getting Vick is even a possibility. Mostly, it just says that Thompson isn't taking a stance on it either way.

That said, if Vick ever does wear Green and Gold, I'll be doing two things. 1) Rooting for the Lions (out of spite) and 2) donating $10 to the Humane Society for every time Vick gets sacked (so the pitbulls can celebrate).

Although the Pack could use an experienced back-up quarterback wouldn't it be ironic if Ted Thompson, who avoids at all costs the free agent market that usually has several talented players available each year, would actually sign a convicted felon free agent who hasn't played for two years and that a big segment of the Packer fans would not support. That would be a huge statement about his GM ability in my opinion. If you can't draft or sign talent, at least take character.

There were a couple games last year where having a more experienced quaterback would have made the difference. I just think Michael Vick, even though I feel he has done his time, I don't think he would bring anything but drama. He will play somee where regardless of what any fans think, but I just don't think we are desperate enough to bring him in. I think Ted Thompson is just riding the attention train again.

Michael Vick, for whatever reason, made an incredibly stupid decision, was arrested, processed through the court system, paid his debt to society (incarceration) and is now a free person. Would I want him on my team? NO. I thought that he could bring excitement to the NFL for a number of years but although I truly appreciate his athletic talent, his involvement in this issue disgusts me. Should The Packers pursue him? Sure, if you want to disgrace the Packer “legacy”. Do you want to win at any cost? I doubt it. Do you want to win? Of course you do but you are not…Oakland. *LOL* By the way, please don’t misquote Mr. Vince Lombardi.
I can’t recall an NFL team that has not had some type of screw up so keep the faith Packer fans. I, as a New England Patriots fan, want a rematch. *s*

good post booker

im aware stallworth had thc in his system. that stays for how long?? 30 daysish. do you think that if on that night he hit and killed someone he had ONLY thc in his system that pedestrian is still alive?? id bet the odds are HEAVY on that. someone posted earlier that it wasnt about race, it was about 'criminal record' and i just wanted to know the opionion if nick barnett had a criminal record. killing dogs and disrespecting people while drinking of course are two dift criminal records. big times. both criminal records all the same. thats a good analogy of pot vs heroin cuz those two are dift drugs. big times. both drugs all the same.

Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, Leonard Little, Ernie Holmes, Plaxico Burress, Tank Johnson, Donte Stallworth....should I go on?? Vick did his time hes a great player and he dserves toplay again. Should he have done what he did, no but he did it and did his time. He did a far less crime than some of the mentioned names here....

It will be a cold day in hell before Vick wears a PACKER uniform. It ain't gonna happen.

Kid, I favor the legalization of marijuana but it should be noted that Stallworth also had measureable THC in his system when he killed a pedestrian. And comparing Barnett's incident to Vick's organized criminal enterprise is absurd. It's akin to comparing marijuana to heroin. You can do better than that.

First the Milton police intentionally lure child sex offenders into Wisconsin, and now the Pack wants to intentionally draw a convicted felon here? What is Wisconsin becoming - the nation's playground for criminals?

If the Pack picks up Vick..I will no longer watch them or be for them. I'm sorry but criminals have no place in the NFL, Greenbay or Wisconsin. Some kids look up to football players because they have no other hero's. Vick is in no way a hero. He is scum. The NFL should be ashamed of themselves for reinstating him..What is the Pack coming to..DALLAS. I thought the Pack was better then that.

All you people complaining that Ted ran Favre out of town forget the agony at the end of every season toward the end of his career wondering if the golden boy was going to come back! I got sick of it!! I am sure Ted did too, as well as most of the Packers. He became a primadonna and hate him for that. I now have a basement shrine and a ton of memorabilia that I can't even stand to look at.
Vick did his time and I believe he deserves a second chance, and if you knew me and my stance on scum that abuse animals your jaw would drop hearing me say that. I have 3 dogs and if anyone tried to harm them they would cease to exist or at least wish they no longer did. Favre was not a god, he was a great football player that forgot it is about the team and the game, not about him. good riddance Brett.

Unfortunately humans don't have a PETA looking out for their interests and playing it up in the national media which is why Stallworth gets 30 days for a drunken homicide of person and Vick gets 2 years for brutally killing dogs.

if its about a criminal record i have a question. would it be ok if vick had pled it down far enough to avoid a criminal record?? as current packer nick barnett did?? would you haters think that nick barnett should be kicked off if he indeed did get a criminal record out of his situation?? or is that ok too because he was out drinking??

EXCELLENT point whitey. you see the missing factor tho is alcohol. stallworth was drunk so 30 days in jail and all is forgiven. maybe if mr vick was drunk we would forgive him too. after all, its not the individuals fault...its the fault of the alcohol. that is our societys mojo right??

My mother is a dog person and sent me a birthday card with a front and profile mugshot of a pit bull. Then you opened it and the pit bull was saying, "Yes your honor I did chew up Michael Vick's jockstrap. And I regret that he was wearing it at the time." LOL

Vick is just what the Pack doesn't need with a team filled with young impressionable players. Besides being a scum bag he hasn't played in TWO YEARS! Thompson seems pretty dumb at times but even he can't be that stupid.

I hope this is a joke. Vick is only a distraction from a quarterback who wasn't that good at actually throwing the ball. Let Cleveland sign him so he'll have to deal with their dogpound.
