Storms cause flash floods, wind damage
JANESVILLE -- Severe thunderstorms wreaked havoc in Rock and Walworth counties Sunday, causing flash floods and pummeling trees and power lines.
Two waves of storms blew through the area, prompting the National Weather Service in Sullivan to issue severe thunderstorm warnings at 2:40 p.m. and 4:21 p.m.

Tamt... I was thinking the same thing about the clouds. And the lightning was kind of like in the War of the worlds (creepy Tom Cruise one)

marcody, glad to see you are open minded. We need more of that! Was this integrated celebration local or did you travel to another city?

The weather was great!! The wall of clouds was awesome. We were out by the airport when the second storm was getting ready to do it's thing. The clouds were sort of like the ones in Independance Day. Our neighbor down the street had a tree fall on his van. Glad he has insurance. Have noticed there are tree branches everywhere. Does anyone know if the winds were clocked? Heard on the radio that the second big storm was supposed to have hurricaine force winds.

From four flights up and with the rain coming down so fast and heavy, it looked just like a huge blizzard had overtaken the area.

Was on I-90 returning from a Jewish wedding in Chicago, saw an awesome band of raincloud stretch across but was cameraless at the time. It really was quite a sight but got none of what was seen back home here.

Driving from Milton to Emerald Grove during the worst of it. Felt like 35mph was scary fast, the visibility was so low. A lot of the rain was blowing nearly horizontal.
.
Six inches of water on Delavan Drive and Main/Beloit/Palmer, and Sharon Rd. had gravel from the shoulder strewn across it. Not fine gravel, either, but roadbed stuff.
.
The bike path was full of debris, too, when I went out later. I hope the city will be grooming it soon.

We were at Palmer Park when it hit. I would describe the drive home like driving in a Hurricane! The wind and rain were straight sideways, couldn't see, and the car being pushed sideways. VERY scary!
