MADISON, Wis. (AP) — An aide says Democratic Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton is planning to run for governor next year.

Lawton aide Ben Nuckels says the two-term lieutenant governor intends to run for the state's top job and "will have more to say about that in the near future."

Lawton had said in the past she would run if Gov. Jim Doyle did not seek re-election. Doyle announced Monday he would not run for a third term in office.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan says he does not plan to run for governor. The Janesville Republican says he will ask voters to return him to Congress next year.

Two prominent Republicans, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and Former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann, are already in the race.

Judging by the past tract record, I'd say she's got her work cut out for her. Her good buddy Doyle hurt the Dem's reputation.

Now calm down spark - the state isn't in shambles. Let Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton show you how to run a state. You'll be amazed.

They are awake, and that's why Ryan's still here. I wish he would run for Governor. He would win. The only time the voters have been asleep is when they voted for that idiot Doyle twice and he put this state into shambles.

Oh good God, are you kidding me? Didn't we just get great news that Doyle was not running again? Now Lawton?

Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton "... aims to improve the economic status of women in Wisconsin by removing roadblocks ..." That is a refreshing contrast to Doyle's railway to nowhere.

Lawton will need to explain how she differs from Doyle. I see her as just another puppet of the unions and a tax and spend liberal. Wisconsin cannot take another democrat as gov. We have given all the power in Madison and Washington to the liberals and it did not take long to see what they are going to do. We cannot afford to keep these tax and spend idiots. Tax tax tax is all their little minds can think of. Or in Doyles case fee, fee, fee remember he will not raise your taxes...how laughable.

No real news here, but it's still a scary thought of Lawton in the top spot.
