DA will not press charges against former officer

A criminal investigation into allegations against Jason Casper, former school resource officer for the Milton Police Department, revealed inappropriate but not criminal behavior, according to police reports and a statement issued by Milton Police Chief Jerry Schuetz this morning.

The district attorney told Schuetz last week that he would not be pursuing criminal charges.

An 18-year-old former Milton High School student accused Casper in May of inappropriately touching her when she was 17 and sending her lewd text messages when she was 18. The Janesville Police Department conducted the criminal investigation.

Police records indicate Casper exchanged sexually explicit text messages with two former students. Police did not find evidence of inappropriate touching or sexual relationships between Casper and the women.

Casper resigned in July.

SarahB1, I don't know about melstew47, but if my daughter were the "Victim" I would feel the same way. I taught my daughters to be responsible for their own actions. Calling a willing participant in a sexual relationship a victim in ridiculous, and whether the female participant is your daughter or a complete stranger is irrelevant.

What this person did was unquestionably stupid and mind-numbingly self-sabotaging, but to say that there is a "victim" or that he did something morally wrong is very presumptuous without all of the facts.

This guy is a grown man I don't care what these girls did or did not do. He is the adult. Report them to the proper officials, don't engage in the behavior with them. He is extremely lucky he was not charged.

Are the last few texts suggesting that all local police officers are vulnerable to young girls. Young girls have always had crushes on police officers--it is our public servants that we expect to behave better--in fact as a community example. I don't have any problem suggesting that to be attracted to and to send lewd texts to very young women is deviant and something we would rather not have a police officer be.

well heres my thought on this topic.why should he be prosecuted? they act like all these school girls are a bunch of vestile virgins, the parents and others make them sound like victims when in fact their not,but on the other hand, having contact with students is very wrong and he only deserves reprimand for that.if some these parents only new what daddys littles girls are capable of, it would probably stop their hearts.to many men are being made to suffer serious consequences of these little tramps, and then they want to be the victims.so im glad the da didnt prosecute

Well said bennetonf1. I think the Gazette should now publish the accusers name since the D.A. has found no reason to press charges. I say let her name be known so all the "experts" here can have their say. Let's get this blog off topic fast!! Were you as bummed as I was that Schumacher couldn't make his glorious F1 return this season????
