Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle not running in 2010
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Jim Doyle is passing up a chance to become the first Democrat ever elected to three terms as governor in Wisconsin.
Doyle announced Monday that he will not run again in 2010, creating the first wide open governor's race in Wisconsin since 1982.
Doyle says he's not running because he believes governors should limit themselves to two terms. He made the announcement at the Madison elementary school he attended as a child, which is a couple miles from the Capitol.
Doyle's decision opens the door for Democrats to consider a run. It also may stir other Republicans who were hesitant to go after the two-term incumbent.

Perhaps by the time Diamond Jim has finished his term, Obama will clearly be seen as a single-term, President and Doyle will be offered a short stint in a Cabinet or Ambassadorial post, as the pols in those offices bail out for greener pastures.

There are too many turkeys of the Democratic party in the Wisconsin legislature for even a decent Republican governor to do much to stop their mismanagement and I don't think any of the candidates so far are stellar material. There also doesn't appear to be many decent replacements in the wings to encourage voters to replace the current turkeys of both parties in the Wisconsin legislature who delight in playing their little party-line games instead of managing the state government.
.
Unless a significant number of the 80% of party-line-voting sheep suddenly get smart, I think it's going to require a revolution on the part of the 20% independents to make a real change, either in Madison, or in Washington.

Jim Doyle knows he can not get re-elected. We have the biggest deficit ever. He continues to give away to his special interests. Watch and see how fast everyone says they are against his policies.

werpknarly, is there anything that is Doyle's fault in your eyes? As you say the mess was all Thompson, McCallum, and Bush. So what did Doyle do if none of the states problems are the result of his leadership?

What a missleading first sentence. He is not passing it up, if he had any chance of winning he would run again.

If I wanted to pay that kind of money for a deer tag I would much rather go out of state and pay the few extra dollars and get myself a real nice Animal!! Now if we could only get OneBigA$$MistakeAmerica out of the way we could sleep in peace!

Short Memories! .... so soon we forget what a mess Thompson left us in when he ran away to Washington! He gave away millions in tax refunds knowing full well a budget deficit was looming. McCallum just bided his time on his fancy FREE speed boats and passed the buck to gov. Doyle. http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-95077323... Is it Doyle fault the economy is in the tank? or is it 8 years of busheconomics.. turning Clintons government SURPLUS into record deficits with nothing to show for it but two unfinished wars, tax breaks for the RICH, and crumbling infrastructure. NOW the republicans are worried about the budget???. yes its all Doyle fault (btw the last sentence is ment to be sarcastic)

Governor needs to do the right thing and step down now and let the Lt. governor Lawton have a shot. A lame duck just cashes checks and takes trips. New leadership is needed now.

Running this state into the ground has been done. With Doyle at the helm we have seen fees (taxes) increase. Business's have left the state for good because of the taxes put upon them by the democrats. The transportation fund has been robbed to feed Doyles pet projects. This is the most crooked man I have ever seen and people kept voting for him and his empty promises and higher taxes. As I stated before its time for a total house cleaning in Madison and Washington. They have all forgotten who they work for. There has to be some honest people somewhere to step up and save Wisconsin. Doyle is an idiot, the people who voted for him were idiots. And anyone who votes these tax and spend liberals back in deserves what they get. I sleep pretty well at night knowing I did not vote for any of these liberals who only care about making themselves look good,

Thanks My Doyle for leaving the state during a time where you were responsible for the largest deficient in states history. Spend our money, stir things up then bail. Very Bill Clinton-like.

This should make all the haters happy...that is, until Scotty Walker finishes what McCallum couldn't, and runs the state into the ground.
