Illinois woman dies in I-90 crash Sunday
A 52-year-old Illinois woman is dead after a one-vehicle crash Sunday, according to a press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. in the eastbound lane of Interstate 90/39 at Highway 59, near Edgerton in Rock County, after the vehicle left the road an struck a bridge abutment, the release said.
The name of the deceased is being withheld until family members are notified, the release said.
The woman was a passenger in the vehicle that was driven by a 51-year-old Illinois man, who was taken to University Hospital, Madison, with non-life threatening injuries, the release said.
It is not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash or if seatbelts were worn at the time of the incident. An investigation into the crash continues, the press release said.

brwe- I can read, and that's exactly what you did not say in your first post my friend, so maybe you should be a little more clear on what you mean. Your posts still sound exactly like the mentality of someone with severe road rage. Ironic that you pointed road rage in my direction. That is quite funny.

I can't think of plainer English! I have the SAME right to pass as those who DON'T obey the speed limits! Can you people read?

brwe, there is a move over law, the left lane is not yours privately. people like you who own the raod are ones who cause accidents like this

OK, a couple of points seem to be in order: (1)Since I'm at most a 2-fingered typist AND since, unlike many who post here, I do have other things to do all day--I choose not to post in great volume. (2) It's amazing the comments you get after the 1st "less-than-critical-thinker" jumps to an unwarranted conclusion. (3)I NEVER said I drive from here to Madison in the left lane! What I had in mind was the situation where you're passing slower traffic, doing the speed limit or slightly better, & some Neanderthal pulls up behind me--going 20 MPH faster--& gets his/her "undies in a bunch" because I'm unwilling to recognize the urgency of his/her right to GROSSLY exceed the speed limit. When I'm finished passing at my present speed, I'll pull over & cheer him/her on to the accident they're in such a hurry to cause/arrive at. (4) I normally avoid most of those problems, anyway, by driving at, or slightly below, the speed limit--IN THE RIGHT LANE-- so that nearly everyone's out of my way. So "spark", you'll have to find someone else to blame your road rage on!

brwe...you are the exact type of person that I will get in front of and slow down to 55 until you get it through your skull to move over. Don't be such a d-bag on the road.

truth - And I totally understand that there's cases where it's hard not to drive in the left lane for awhile. That's understandable. It's those that think they can just drive in the left lane all day regardless of their speed. That is piss poor driving and they are a danger.

Thanks, spark, but my other point is that sometimes drivers CANNOT get into the right lane because its FULL....Good drivers do not pull in one car-length in front of a vehicle thats going 60-65mph..Sometimes you HAVE to "drive in the left lane".

truth1 - Thanks for bringing up another good point. When traffic is merging onto the highway and you are in the right lane. Get the hell over and let people in! If you have to speed up a little or slow down a little to get over, then do it. Then get back over in the right lane after that was accomplished. Did anyone pay attention in drivers ed class?

NEWS FLASH>>>> Traffic often enters the freeway at entrances at well below the speed limit because of poor road design..You CAN'T "stay in the right lane" in much of this area because of this...Another NEWS FLASH>>> Traffic is going to be "congested" there sometimes, because there needs to be 3 lanes and there is only 2....You CAN'T make all traffic be in the right lane because its often *FULL*

It's also the State Patrols job to enforce the speed limit. Not yours. If you thinks it is your right, that is complete road rage.

spark is 100% correct. The left lane is for passing. brwe: it is NOT your job to enforce the speed limit by blocking the left lane. If you are driving 1/20th of a MPH faster than the car in the right lane you are technically passing. However, common courtesy says you should speed up, pass the car and get your butt back into the right lane. It's people like you that cause road rage.

I'm not saying driver behavior had anything to do with this tragedy. I'm very sorry for the family. My point was this. I 90 is seeing way too many deaths. Every week something happens. It's a terrible stretch of road and something needs to change. However, in many instances I have seen horrible driving habits that have caused accidents. Stay off your cell phone and drive in the right lane, when you approach a car going slower use the left lane to pass and get back in the right lane. That is what they taught you when you were 16 and that's how the State Patrol wants it to work. It's called eliminating congestion and keeping traffic flowing. Sudden stops and braking is what causes many problems at those speeds.

janesvillian- Driver behavior DOES change there because there is NO ENFORCEMENT!!!

It doesn't make sense that driver behavior suddenly changes in this section of highway. That's going to be pretty constant wherever you are. The issue is really traffic levels exceeding the design. The planned widening to six lanes can't happen soon enough (of course, high-speed rail would provide some relief to that necessity).

brwe - Then you need to learn the rules my friend. The left lane is for passing regardless of speed. Read the laws.

I love the comments condemning speeding as a factor in accidents--at the same time as others complain about people driving too slow in the left lane. Please define "too slow" for me. As far as I'm concerned, as long as I'm driving at the speed limit (although there's WAY too much misinterpretation of the speed limit--that's a MAXIMUM, NOT A MINIMUM!), I feel absolutely no obligation to move over to make it easier for you to exceed said speed limit!

The only thing I can come up with is that they must be conducting some kind of bizarre experiment to see what will ultimately result when speeding and reckless driving enforcement is totally removed from a stretch of highway(90, Beloit to Madison)..I can come up with no other reason for this state of affairs.

Here's one for ya.... I saw a lady using one of those things for curling eye lashes driving to Madison last week. I've seen people on phones, reading books, writing, and eating, but curling eye lashes was a first for me.

I also can't stand this stretch of highway and do everything I can to avoid it while traveling up north - especially on my motorcycle. Perhaps more police/state trooper presence in the area would deter the speeders and reckless drivers??

I saw a woman writing on a piece of paper on her steering wheel on the way to work last week... I was thinking... "seriously? you can't wait to get to where you are going to write your grocery list?" ... what an idiot...
.
My boyfriend was driving on County M right after the emergency vehicles got there, which goes right under the interstate where this happened... soooo sad.

I hate I-90 it may be a faster route but wayyyy to many accidents happen from Madison to So. Beloit toll more so it seems closer to Janesville and Beloit.

This is another tragedy on this horrible stretch of highway. Coming home last night on I 90 around 5:00 I could not believe how bad it was. People on their phones. People driving too slow in the passing lane and getting passed on the right side because they won't get over. Someone reading a piece of paper. It's a time bomb waiting to go off. I can't stand even being on that road.
