Report: Income tax takes 3.3 percent of income
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A new report says that Wisconsin income tax accounted for 3.3 percent of personal income in 2007.
The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance report says that's 10th highest nationally among state income taxes.
Per capita, Wisconsin income taxes averaged $1,137 per person. The report says that was higher than all neighboring states except Minnesota.
The report also shows that in 2007, nearly 44 percent of all state tax revenue came from the income tax.

MooShoo: Had I the power, I would be happy to cut half of the state budget, and I would go line-by-line to do so. Sadly, that task is not within my reach. That's up to our well-paid representatives and their numerous aides, administrators and minions. Look, if other states can do it, what's the problem in Wisconsin?
$6.6 billion a year!! Wow! Just step back for a minute, and imagine what would happen to the state's economy if that money were left to it's rightful owners. And do you think that a state without an income tax just might be attractive to employers looking to relocate? Uh...YES! Win/Win/Win.

Strange as it may seem, my income didn't go up 3.3% this year. And if I recall correctly, isn't this the governor who pledged "We should not, we cannot, and I will not raise taxes"? Of course all of you dopes who fell for that line the last time will stand in line to vote for whatever tax and spend democrat candidate is put in front of you next election won't you?

SuperDave, how much thought did you put into that statement that it is time to repeal the income tax?
*
The state income tax will raise about $6.6 billion a year. It amounts to roughly 40% of the state's general purpose revenues. Enormous cuts in the budget would have to be made to fill the hole if the income tax were eliminated.
*
To put it in perspective, the UW System annual budgetary appropriation is about $1.2 billion, corrections $1.1 billion, and state shared revenue to municipalities is around $2.2 billion.
*
So what do you propose cutting out of the state budget in order to offset your well thought out plan to eliminate the income tax?

Don't forget to consider Wisconsin's low sales tax and no interstate tolls. Chicago has a sales tax of 10.25% and they pay interstate tolls. Dane and Rock counties in WI pay a sales tax of 5.5%. I'd rather pay 8.8% then 10.25% and tolls, but go ahead and continue to rant about how bad you've got it if it makes you feel better. Do you feel better?

Texas has no income tax but had a rainy day fund of 9 billion dollars when the recession started Dec. 07.

We have one of the highest total state tax burdens on the average citizen in the nation. Between a high income tax and a high property tax, Wisconsin is making itself unattractive to people who don't have to, for family or professional reasons, choose to live here. And now, of course, the state governor wants to raise our taxes . . .

Wow! No wonder so many people and jobs have left the state. It's time to repeal the state income tax!

Must be the legislative aides' absurd salaries that we're paying for in addition to all the other perks of being in the legislature.
