From the WCLO newsroom:

Open enrollment starts Monday for schools across Wisconsin.

Tami Carlson, Administrative Services Secretary in the Janesville School District, says students transfer into Janesville for many reasons. She says students don't need to provide a reason when they transfer. However, through conversations she's learned reasons include extra-curricular programs, charter schools and families who have moved but want their students to stay with their friends.

The Department of Public Instruction is encouraging online sign-up on its website.

jvl4life...I see it everyday, too. Why some parents think they are the only people on earth is beyond me. Also, I don't recall any other schools in town that let parents drop off their kids in the parking lot, at least elementary schools, anyway. Marshall parking lot should be off limits as well. I'm glad something is finally being done about it. Too many things can go wrong there.

Instead of simply dropping off your kids maybe some of you should go inside for a grammar/spelling lesson.

Give the teachers a break as they try to "train" all you folks. The traffic is only bad when you have parents dropping their children off in the left-hand lane in the drop off zone at Marshall. There are also parents who insist on waiting until they are right up next to the crosswalk before letting their child exit the vehicle when there is plenty of room past the crosswalk area to drop your child off as well. Oh, don't forget when you could drop your child off in the parking lot, it was a constant game of stop and go waiting for all the kids to cross the crosswalk from that parking lot and backing up traffic. I drop my child off each and every day and see it all.

The Marshall/Monroe traffic is a mess. It was a bad idea from the beginning. It doesn't matter if you do the Stop, Drop and Go or if you drop in the parking lot or a block from school. Traffic is horrendous and the teachers walking about the parking lot does not help matters -- it makes it even more congested. It was not a well thought out plan when designing the traffic flow. The school board has monitored it for a couple of years now and it just keeps getting worse.

The driveway road they put in there is for you to drive through to marshall or monroe its call stop drop and go. Also if you have a child you need to take in to school its nice to pull in and Park to take that child in if you have to do so!

Too many people think that they have to drop their kids off right next to the school. What is wrong with having them walk or drop them off a block away from the school. Or heaven forbid drop them off right there on Pontiac.

It's really not the wrong place Stacey letting other parents knowing about these issues to let them be aware of what is happening at this particular school will may let them think about where they may want to send their child. Their needs to be a change for the good cause the way their taking action right now is only going to turn out BAD!I hope this makes sense..

You would have to call and ask Marshall that. Alls I know is the parking lot( the big lot beween the two schools not monroe teachers lot) is for marshall teachers only if you take the side road between the schools their is a delay in the morning because they are blocking the lot for no parents to get in so expect delays on the road in the morning on pontiac for the back-up.
