MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson has accepted $11,500 in donations from lawyers who have a pending medical malpractice case in front of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Abrahamson has not disclosed the donations from members of the Cannon & Dunphy law firm to parties in the case or recused herself. Her campaign acknowledged she attended a Milwaukee fundraiser last month with the lawyers and other supporters.

Abrahamson campaign manager Heather Colburn says the justice accepts donations from lawyers with pending cases but not actual plaintiffs. She says Abrahamson "decides every case based on the law and the facts."

Abrahamson is running for re-election against Jefferson County Judge Randy Koschnick.

And one more chapter in the never ending saga "the best justice money can buy"...just add her name to ZIEGLER and GABLEMAN.

Makes you proud to be from Wisconsin...NOT.

But hey, heaven forbid we should consider MERIT appointment.

Anyone familiar with Abrahamson's voting record would not be surprised by the fact that criminal defense attorneys and ambulance chasing lawyers are supporting her.

She shouldn't have done that given the conflict of interest allegations for the most recent court elections. It doesn't seem to be strictly illegal, though.

Another example of our government at work... lining their damn pockets for "favors" done.

I don't see why these facts justify criticizing an entire profession, as one comment does.

Typical sleazy lawyer ploy - if you don't feel you can win based on the facts, lets try bribing the judges! They will just recoup the money out of their ourageous contingency fee-and the poor injured patient gets even less!!
