Gas prices top $2 per gallon in Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The price of gas has passed the $2 mark again.
AAA reports the average price for a gallon of regular fuel is $2.01 statewide.
That's up 6 cents per gallon from a month ago, but still much less than a year ago, when the average was $3.03.
AAA says the national average is $1.97 per gallon, up 14 cents from a month ago, but down from $3.01 a year ago.
In the Milwaukee area, the average price was $2.03 per gallon Monday.
The lowest average price for one of the state's metro areas is in Janesville and Beloit, where gas is $1.96 per gallon. Eau Claire has the highest average price at nearly $2.06 per gallon.

"The price of gas is indeed tied to oil. It's just a matter of which oil.
The benchmark for crude oil prices is West Texas Intermediate, drilled exactly where you would imagine. That's the price, set at the New York Mercantile Exchange, that you see quoted on business channels and in the morning paper.
Right now, in an unusual market trend, West Texas crude is selling for much less than inferior grades of crude from other places around the world. A severe economic downturn has left U.S. storage facilities brimming with it, sending prices for the premium crude to five-year lows.
But it is the overseas crude that goes into most of the gas made in the United States. So prices at the pump will probably keep going up no matter what happens to the benchmark price of crude oil."

... Oil companies have been well "stimulated" by our government for decades... they get a greater portion of tax relief and subsidies than any other industry in the world.
$2 doesn't even begin to reflect the actual cost of a gallon of gasoline.

mcdaddy, I was thinking the same thing, sure would hate to be in oil right now..LOL. About 3 weeks ago gas was $2.14 for a few days up here, it's been 2.09 ever since. Got to "stick it" to the snomobilers I guess. Then summer will come and they "stick it" to the tourists. They don't give a rip about the actual residents that live up here all year long. its hard times for Oil companies too right now, with everyone trying to go green, and not driving as much as they did before because of habits changed when gas was at $4 a gallon. I mean the companies made only $44 Billion in the 4th quarter last year. How can you survive if you aren't make at least $200 Billion a year??
They have to feed their kids.

At $36.91 for a barrel of crude, gas should be a lot less than $2.00/gas.
