Hmmmm...wonder what I said that was offensive enough to be removed. Anyone recall? I actually believe I was pretty nice about the boy.

Ya think maybe he pulled out the knife in self defense while getting choked, regardless of what started the argument, and NOT because some clothes were moved?

justmy414 and johndoe, you couldn't be further from the truth. I will defend my family with my firearms. I will NOT however, defend my cloths from being moved from a t.v. set. Think about it...there is a difference there. And who ever said anything about his socio-economic status??? You don't know me or my economic status.

Wow, Leostime36 you seem really angry. I can't believe anyone would be so cold to talk of someone who just died the way you did. Yes, he made mistakes everyone does some worse than others, but really do we need to call him a doosh! What ever happenned to the saying rest in peace? Maybe before you open your mouth try and use your brain and think about his innocent family who were not in jail. Let them mourn their loss.

You're absolutely right 414...it's interesting to see all these people who espouse their right to defend themselves and their family and property...but when someone outside of their' social or ethnic class purports to do the same thing...lo and behold ...it's now a different story.
Wonder if they know how to spell "two-faced"?
And before everyone gets carried away here...do you believe in "innocent until proven guilty"?

Belliagio, did you miss the part where the person he stabbed admits he slammed the deceased into a wall, grabbed his neck and "squeezed really hard?" Sure don't feel sorry for the deceased, but I don't ever want to read another comment from you about your right to protect yourself, your kids, or your property again.

BELLAGIO...yes, I get your point, but I am guessing the person he stabbed in the face probably isn't much of a better person then this boy was. Seems to me they were both from the same beaten path.

I absolutely believe that anyone who ends up in jail, needs to re-evaluate their lives and probably in most cases needs mental help. With saying that, each and every person who comments on the lack of tasty cuisine, the lack of adequate heathcare, the lack of empathetic jailers etc....needs to stop and REMEMBER, jail is PUNISHMENT....PUNISHMENT is NOT suppose to be favorable! Get it? If luxury is what you want, lift your chin up, stop blaming society for your issues, take responsibility for your actions and place in society, and proceed in life with a purpose not a vengence! In the ideal world, the hopes are that if someone visits jail, they would never want to return, and in return LEARN from the mistake that got them there in the first place! But is seems these same people who complain about how unedible the food is, end up frequent flyers.

Who really cares if the bean and rice taste like &*@% in the jail. That someone would even post that it could be the reason is just stupid. Whatever the reason, it was his decision and not to be blamed on ANYONE else. He had issues....thats why he was in there in there in the first place. No one put him in there, HIS actions put him in there. No pity for him, just what family he left behind.

Neobartly....what is your point?! We can't go off onto tangents here. Simply allow the investigation to play out. In general, if an inmate wants to do this, they can. This person's offenses, guilty or not, socio-economic....should not have bearings on your opinions. Simply call it what it is after the investigation is complete. Typing on blogs/ posts to point out faults (or lack of fault), with something like this?!!! Most of you simply will not have the information to judge the staff or the inmate. Wait for the findings to come out.
*
As for the rest of you, your right, this kid didn't need to kill himself and the friends and family will have heartache to deal with. I ask you also to consoder what the staff must go through when this occurs.
*
No doubt this will turn into an automatic lawsuit, though it shouldn't be automatic unless wrongdoing was discovered. And no doubt the staff of the Sheriff's department will be investigated and will not be given quick answers to the investigation. Try going to work with that on your head every day!
*
How many of you have to deal with things like that in your wokplace? Be careful about firing off opinions and judgements so quickly.

Sad! This poor boy seems to have had a life of misery from the start. I am so sad to hear about these destructive patterns loser parents have created for their children. This boy obviously had a loss of hope. I pray he is finally at peace.

My thoughts are with the inmates family, they are the ones suffering.
It's not a matter of who is at fault, the pain is there for the loved ones - give them a break!

This is certainly NOT the fault of the jail staff, unless they left a long rope sitting in the cell. The staff has a large population to watch and control, and cannot give 24x7 attention to every inmate. If somebody really wants to kill him/herself, they will find a way to do it. The only way to prevent it is to put every inmate in shackles, but I think the ACLU might weigh in on that approach. The person I feel sorry for is the poor guy who found this kid, who will have to live with that image and experience for the rest of his life.

Irishlady, ultimately it is Ken's fault. He took his own life. Suicide (Latin suicidium, from sui caedere, to kill oneself) is the intentional taking of one's own life. Whatever the circumstances, it was his doing. I feel I can say this knowing first hand, having a family member commit suicide. There wasn't really any big warning signs for anyone to see, he had never spoken about suicide and overall seemed pleased with his life. He had his problems but overall seemed happy. And then he killed himself. Ken decided to do what he did for whatever reasons he felt he had. It is not the jail's nor the correction officers fault that he made this decision. They had him, by my understanding, in a cell by himself. To blame the hard working staff at the jail for his decision is unfair, to say the least.
To Ken's family, I am so sorry for the pain you are going through. You will never truly understand why he made this decision and will always wonder the what if's. I am sorry for your loss.

If you think it isn't the responsibility of the people who are in charge of him while in custody, then who's is it? IMO It is there job (Or should be) to look for people at risk of this type of behavior. If this was your child, brother, friend I think you would look at it different. And it is a "tragedy" and yes he is someones son, brother and or friend. again I type this I am amazed at all the cold hearted people in todays world! This kid was 20 years old and had a whole life ahead of him. And people make mistakes in their lives and do go to jail and Every mistake I made I learned from and guess what I still make mistakes and I still learn from them. And the ones in here that have NEVER made a mistake or errored in judgement I applaud you but also feel sorry as without a mistake or 2 what can you change in your perfect world. have any of your kids made a mistake? Mine have.

While I understand all of You are borde and feel your informed and up to date on socio~issues.
Pause for a moment and hold your tounge.
Please take into account this is a human and also the following.
1.) Have You been there to know first hand whats the aura and ways of such system?
2.) Does a downturn in the ecconomy make things even better for the under funded system? The workers or the inmates?
3.) Do you have a family member your concerned about for future refrence?
4.) Was he Honestly guilty of an offense or just the most likely person to blame?
5.) Was Bubba and friends haven thier way with an assumed guilty person?
6.) Are You the most law abidding, straight shooter on Earth and never have done anything wrong that, if certain things were diffrent; You'd get to have all that FUN too?
I think for the most part, comments are good to weigh the american demeanor. But, Your not showing US how smart you think you are. Your showing something quite contrary.
I do hope all the negative folks do attempt to rethink, and reflect upon themselves and loved ones as this truely sad sitch has occured.
He didnt have a death sentence and it should have had a diffrent outcome. Thats the point. And no, no-one can always be awear of troubled folks that are considered high risk. Because he may have not become one until that very day.
Go there...Try it...Then make negative comments.
Some folks are so ignorant. Sorry, You are.

J'villeMomandDad; the taxpayer does not pay for the inmate healthcare, the inmate or his/her family does. As this appears to be self inflicted, the point is mute: C-3 section is known as the "HOLE" a disiplinary unit for inmates.

It is our business. The family may sue the Sheriff's Dept because he couldn't deal with the trouble he got himself into. That could affect the comminity in a lot of different ways. It is a tragedy and I do feel for his family, but remember, This guy was in jail for a felony and was in lockdown. That means he couldn't keep himself out of trouble in jail let alone on the streets.

Well you know what? If the healthcare is so horrendous, DON'T GO TO JAIL!!! There are millions of people with NO healthcare at all. So why, when someone is NOT a law abiding citizen, should the taxpayers have to pay for THEIR healthcare!!!

Or it may have to do nothing with the facility's health care. Maybe this guy didn't disclose a medical problem, maybe it was a fight gone wrong, suicide or possible overdose. How about we wait to find out the cause of death before we start bashing and blaming the facility. The jail may have nothing to do with it.
