Janesville has declared a snow emergency for Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

A snow emergency means that all vehicles must be removed from city streets and public parking lots until snow plowing operations are complete. To ensure that you do not receive a parking ticket, move your vehicle before 10 a.m. and keep it off city streets until they have been completely plowed.

If you are unable to park in a driveway or garage, vehicles can be parked in one of six downtown municipal parking lots in a designated snow emergency parking stall.

They are:

-- East Wall Street lot at East Wall Street and North Parker Drive

-- Municipal Building lot at West Wall Street and North Jackson Street

-- South High Street lot at West Court Street and South High Street

-- Senior Center lot at St. Lawrence Avenue and Water Street

-- Hedberg Public Library lot on Water Street

-- River/Union Street lot at South River Street and Union Street

Fines for parking on the streets during a snow emergency are $20. Police may begin issuing tickets to violators before plowing operations begin.

Residents can get additional snow emergency information on the city’s Web site at www.ci.janesville.wi.us or by calling (608) 755-SNOW. To report problems or concerns, call (608) 755-3110.

What is a "snow emergency" in J-ville??
Do the police EVER issue a citation for anyone parked on the steet during a "snow emergency"!
Do the police EVER issue a citation for anyone that does not clear their sidewalks during a "snow emergency"; or any other time!!
Countless times, I have seen the police slowly drive by cars parked in the streets and do nothing, nothing!!!!
People see this, so nobody cares and they continue to park in the street and not clear their sidewalks!!!!!!
It is a joke and everyone knows it!!!!!!!

i delcare (after all, janesville declares) tips for handling the snow emergency. 1) have a good big breakfast. 2) get some strong hot coffee going and have two or three cups minimum before tackling any work. 3) make a cohesive plan of attack. 4)make sure there is plenty of fuel in the snow blower and that all shovels are in good working order. 5) put on approiate clothing so you can do your work in warm comfort. 6) before going out in the cold, turn on the t.v. and tvo everything that is a must see for the next few hours (days). 7) get the wife up and assign the task of getting some chocolate chip cookies baked in case you need a pick-me-up to keep you going. 8) decide after looking out the window and checking out the weather channel, whether or not now is the time to start, or not. 9) with the plan in place, take off your coat and sit down play some computer games and wait for a warm sunny day to melt the stuff. plan accomplished....good day

It must be tough working for this City. People b#%#h when the City doesn't call a snow emergency or waits too long to call one and they b@#$h when they don't call one. Lose/lose. Sucks.

doc0430 - your comment is not only unrealistic but stupid. Maybe you should go find your own hammer!

Hey BartSimpson if the plow just came down your street then you are now on the done list so do not expect to see them again! I'm sure the city is just getting the side streets done ahead of time so they can just do the main thru streets once the snow has fallen..... For those of you who think I'm serious go out to your garage find A hammer and HIT YOURSELF repeatedly for being an idiot!

Actually with the amount of salt that Mr. Whitcomb had them put down earlier this week when the meteorologists cried wolf, much of this snow is likely to melt on contact.

Oh for the good old days when governments declared emergencies after they actually emerged.

That would seem a little premature. The sun is still out.
