From the WCLO newsroom:

State Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan plans to visit the Rock County Job Center Friday morning to speak with displaced workers.

The Democrat from Janesville says no where in the state has been hit harder than Rock county. Sheridan wants to update residents on an additional three months of unemployment benefits, as well as explain how federal stimulus dollars will help modernize the state's unemployment insurance program.

The event is planned for 10:00.

I have been “downsized” before, actually a few times, and I know the anger, pain and fear that comes with it. I learned that anger is the worst. We tend to blame many people for our job loss and lose sight of what we need to do to recover. I am thankful that there was unemployment compensation that sustained me until I found another job. The socialism phobia people in these blogs may not agree with that but I digress. Anyways, you have to get past the anger and focus on being positive. No employer wants to hire angry people.
janesvillean’s post at 2:10 p.m. IMO was excellent. Scroll back and read it if you care to.
I don’t know Rep. Mike Sheridan but if you don’t like him, you have the power of the vote. In the meantime, for your own mental health and wellness, focus on being POSITIVE. Yes, I know that it may be easier said than done, but give it a try. And remember, there are always people who care.

Rep. Mike Sheridan, D-Janesville—Sheridan, Assembly speaker-elect will accept the pay increase, he wrote in a news statement.

"I plan to accept the pay increase and work hard for every dime," Sheridan wrote/ Now will he work hard for it I don't think so. JMO. I just wish the talk would end and the real action start.

I am going to make a note of this day, that way I can see if he claims it for per diem for being in Madison. I believe the amount is $88 per day, which is "earned" for being in the Capitol. As a laid off person myself, I would have to say we need more action rather than great fancy speeches.

The day Sheridan became Speaker, was the day Wisconsin government went down the toilet. The only reason Sheridan is in office is because of the diehard plant rats that thought he would save thier jobs. Sheridan was didn't help the plant and he sure is not able to help Janesville now. He is a Dole puppet.

Janesville is lucky to have a state legislator like Sheridan who knows and understands the issues facing working men and women, and the state is lucky to have a Speaker like him as well. He can't singlehandedly reverse a global economic slide or reopen GM. And so what if he knew anything about the closing in advance? Who of us did NOT know that GM was soon to close, and what difference would his knowing about an announcement a little sooner than anyone else make?
.
The man is visiting his district, what a surprise.

Is this the same Mike Sheridan that said he was taking the pay raise? Has this changed? If not, he sure has guts.

Is Mike giving tours of the "NEW GM PLANT" he promised a while back?? And when did he give us his "What did he know and when did he know it speech" about the GM closing announcements???
Oh, he was out of the country, wasn't he??

I applaud Rep. Sheridan for his hard work for all of Rock County - day in and out. Instead of making petty remarks, we should be proud to have such a hard-working and caring representative. I don't think some commenters on this site realize just how much he has done for us...

Hey Sheridan and Doyle. Your are like a broken record and masters of the obvious. Now try and do something about it.

This should have been in yesterday if it was really meant to be an announcement that would notify people it was happening - a little late now.

Im one of those that dont get the sub pay nor the extentions and I can live where, eat what? No more corners to cut here. I just pray for all like us that the economy bounces back somewhat soon to give us some hope as to having a place to call home. Depression is here to and it does hurt and scare me.

There are no guarantees in life other than death and taxes, thus no jobs are "taken away." Whether I am unemployed or not, I am tired of hearing politicians flap at the gap about what "they" are doing for us. Actions speak louder than words. Until then, Sheridan can go pound sand.

carlitosway You might be right. But for some people that are very depressed with what has happened he might give them something to hold on to. Yes its just alot of politics, but if he could say something to give some of those people a little bit of encouragement-- would that be so bad? I could be wrong but what can it hurt?

And talk about what everyone already knows and give his insight to what? And continue to advance his career at the hand of his former workers. You might as well bring dohner there also as they both blow a lot of hot air. Just My Opinion

Evidently you must not be unemployed or it would matter to you. Trying to find places to apply for a job, after the one you had was taken away from you. If you were put in that situation it might interest you to hear what he has to say, instead of BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.

I want to see results, not hearing Sheridan flapping his gap.
