JANESVILLE—Zumiez, a new store that provides customers with cutting-edge clothing styles, music and hard goods for skate, snow, surf and active young lifestyles, will take over the former Wilson’s Leather space at the Janesville Mall, 2500 Milton Ave. Construction starts in February and the store will be open by April.

Also, K-Alterations, a tailor and alterations shop, will open later this month in the former Always Travel Space, located near Diamond Dave’s.

The Buckle and Victoria’s Secret will renovate and expand their stores.

Wow, retired, do you know what everyone does for a living, what hours we all work, what days we work? Where we work? That we aren't self-employed? What time we take our breaks?
GUESS NOT

The Madison malls are a joke too. We even made a stop at Mayfair in Milwaukee and that has become such a dump (they could remodel though and make it nice). Boy am I glad I moved away to a nice city where I can get nice goods without traveling over 10 miles.

Janesville mall may not be as good as madison, but look at it compared to beloit, I think its great they are adding and expanding, at least they are trying to keep it running, and opening up new job opportunities which janesville needs!

I was recently in the Janesville Mall when I was in town for the holidays. What a dump that place has become (not that it was ever great). The majority of the stores in there I had never heard of. In the end, I had to go to Madison to find any decent shoes (which is what I was looking for). I would suggest better retailers.

If the Gymboree is closing....GOOD. They are extremely expensive compared to the same type clothes that you can get at Kohls for a fraction of the cost. Let's face it folks, the days of conspicuous consumption should be over for a while anyway.

I walked through the mall the other day and saw numerous walls and gates covering previous retail space. In addition, new stores opening where others have closed isn't exactly growth. Nonetheless, it's better to have something happening at the mall even if it's basically neutral or lateral. Although I think there will be quite a few retail closings in the coming years across Janesville, I don't see the Janesville mall ever closing.

MrBlack & oldtimer, what you have here is the confusion between recession and depression. In a recession, not everybody has lost their jobs and some areas in the country are more affected than others. A recession can lead into a depression if not dealt with. Now, we have records set for unemployed, sales for big ticket items ( houses, cars, ect. - the first to be hit by recessions) taking a big hit. The amount of debt per person has climbed to new highs. This means people still will purchase/go out to eat/ect., just putting it on the ol' plastic card. So while the house of cards might look good, if the support structure is not good then are we still doing great? I'll give you this much, the news does report this like it is a depression. But the reality is things are not good, and to get out of this recession it will take work, not looking through rose colored glasses.

Tj, I never said a high school will be closing. Please pay attention or leave this discussion. Mr. Black, the economy is very bad. What you and many others are seeing out there is just more people going into debt with credit card charges and spending beyond their means.

Face it, Janesville is still in trouble and we have a lot of work to do to make it better. I think the tv media has a lot to do with the doom and gloom, they are always so negative. I think someday they will go the way of the news print. I never thought the economy was so bad either. People are still filling up the football stadiums etc, New years eve the resturants were packed. So take the TV media with a grain of salt.

Went out to eat last night and the restaurant was very busy for a Monday night especially right after the holidays. Everybody keeps on telling us how bad the economy is, i'm still not convinced.
