Minnesota man convicted in Madison stabbing commits suicide
WAUPUN, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a Minnesota man convicted of killing a Madison man apparently committed suicide in prison while serving a life sentence.
Twenty-year-old Adam C. Peterson, of Stillwater, Minn., was a former University of Wisconsin-Madison student who pleaded guilty last month to killing Joel Marino of Madison.
Dodge County authorities say he apparently hanged himself in his cell in the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun on Saturday night. He was found by his cellmate.
The sheriff’s department and the prison are investigating Peterson’s death. They say they don’t suspect foul play.
Peterson was accused of fatally stabbing the 31-year-old Marino in his home last January in what authorities believe was a robbery attempt.

TrueBlue-- some people are very heavy sleepers. It's possible that his cellmate was one of them.

Under any circumstance, suicide is uncomprehensable for anyone to understand, and even more so for the families. The family of this man did not commit any crime, and they should be spared the "self-rightous" remarks on justice.
The prison system, time and time again, fails to evaluate inmates with mental disorders. I question why Adam was not put on suicide watch. DOC protocol dictates that any inmate, such as him, who had previously attempted suicide, be placed on watch. Shame on the DOC again!!

I wonder why his cell mate heard nothing or saw nothing, but yet 'found him'?

This young man was diagnosed with schizophrenia while hospitalized shortly after the murder took place and before he was a suspect. His public defender acknowledged this in court but also said the young man was aware of right and wrong when the murder took place. There are no winners in this case. Two families have lost their sons while both men were still young. My condolences go out to both.

I believe he was mentally ill and this disease usually goes undiagnosed. It's unfortunate for the victim's family he was not properly treated before he murdered someone, and unfortunate the State did not protect someone who appeared to be mentally ill. It's just a sad story anyway you look it. For someone to say he saved the WI taxpayers a lot of money is shameful and sad. It's always different when it NOT your family member. And as stated below, if his family sues the state, it may cost us taxpayers more!! I pray both families can have closure now and move forward.

I will preface my statement by saying that I have absolutely NO good feelings for anyone who murders another human being. It makes me very angry that the stupidity of one person has such a profound, negative, life altering affect on so many friends, family and others.

Yes, it makes me angry and I know we all express our anger in various ways but please keep in mind the fact that the family of this person did not commit this heinous crime and in their grief, they do not need people making light of it. JMO

BooHoo!!!! The sad part about this incident is that I am sure Mr. Peterson's family will be filing a "Wrongful Death" or some other bogus lawsuit against the State for "allowing" this to happen.

Yes, hanged is the correct word...
.
(From merriam-webster.com) b: to suspend by the neck until dead —often hanged in the past —often used as a mild oath <I'll be hanged>
