MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The governors of Wisconsin and Minnesota hope to save money by jointly purchasing products and services and by sharing specialized equipment.

Both states are facing huge deficits as the economy continues to struggle.

Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican, plan to appear together in Madison and St. Paul Tuesday to announce that the two states will collaborate on finding savings.

Doyle and Pawlenty will direct their top aides to meet soon to discuss potential savings, such as buying products in bulk to receive discounts.

Wisconsin faces a deficit of $5.4 billion by June 2011. Minnesota is looking at a deficit of $4.8 billion in its upcoming two-year budget.

I can see it now, the WIMN Golden Badgers. The land of 10,000 lakes and a lot of farms too. I guess Stuart Smalley is now good enough and smart enough for WI.

If this all goes better than planned and Hollywood bases a movie off of it, I want William H. Macy to play Jim Doyle, but in the character of Jerry Lundegaard from Fargo. I can see it now.

Budget Chair- Mr. Doyle there's no need to yell over this budget.

Doyle- I'm... I'm not arguing here! I'm cooperating. So there's no need to... we're doin' all we can here.

I think it's a brilliant idea. Why not? I LIKE Minnesota, even IF I'm not a big fan of the Vikings:) If we can share ANYTHING that'll save us money down the road, YAY! Heck, at this point and time, why not just combine the two of us into one giant state with one government? Look at the money we'd save, and I'd be happy to be part of Minnesota. I've always found the people of MN to be hard working, smart and sociable.

Say the news conference costs $10000 in extra travel costs (over and above what a teleconference would cost). That's one *millionth* of the combined deficit figure, or 0.0001%.
