The Walworth Elementary School teacher who police say was found with cocaine and heroin in the school parking lot waived her right to a preliminary hearing this morning.

Katie M. Luessenhop, 26, of 125 Jefferson St., Darien, is charged with felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of cocaine.

Her attorney, Stephen Mays, told the judge she waived her hearing today because she wants to “move forward.”

Luessenhop was arrested Sept. 18, after police were called to the school parking lot for a disturbance, according to the criminal complaint.

Luessenhop gave police a small wrapped container, which she said contained cocaine. She also gave police a file folder inside which was a small plastic bag containing a powder, according to the complaint. Police then searched her purse and found another small bag containing powder.

The samples were sent to the state crime lab, where testing revealed two of the samples to be heroin and one of the samples to be cocaine, according to the complaint.

Luessenhop remains free on a signature bond and will next appear in court Feb. 18.

Do any school districts in this area require drug testing for new employees, including teachers? I did a little research and learned that Hawaii is the only state requiring that its teachers be tested. After all, schools are considered "drug-free zones". As far as never letting this teacher return to the classroom, I am one who has seen countless times that treatment works. I hope she is able to get help if she, indeed, has a substance use disorder.

gmao3: What about prescription drugs obtained legally? Did you know that the fastest-increasing mortality rate from drugs is due to prescription pain medications? Do you allow your grandchildren around people taking them? Do you know if everybody your grandchildren come in contact with has taken time and cares enough to lock up those prescription medications? What if one of your grandchildren's teachers has prescribed medications in her purse or his pocket? Are you sure your grandchildren are safe in that scenario? I am not condoning what this teacher did. I am only trying to enlighten people to the fact that both legal and illegal drugs can be a problem.

The CCAP states she is living in Lake Geneva.. If you look at the history, this chick moves around an awful lot..
She is a disgrace to the teaching profession, not to mention the school.

I remember when this story broke... She needs a different career... Even if she cleans up her act... She crossed the line. These are our children. I have absolutely NO tolerance for anyone in contact with children, having drugs on the premises, where young children could be exposed to the drug or someone on drugs.

I hope she does get her life turned around. As I recall when this story first broke, there was an issue with a crummy boyfriend. Hopefully, she can get past this. Just keep her away from my grandkids!

If this teacher was using drugs, I hope she seeks help for her addictions. Maybe one day, she may be able to return to work.

IF she was selling to students, that is a different story.

If I was teaching today's youth I would need to do drugs or at least drink to survive.
