JANESVILLE—Sex offender Eugene W. Vahlenkamp is being released from prison today and will live at the Rock Valley Community Programs, 203 W. Sunny Lane, between Janesville and Beloit.

The 71-year-old was convicted of sexually assaulting two boys, ages 7 and 12, in June of 1991.

His supervision conditions prohibit him from having unsupervised contact with minors; from patronizing taverns, bars or liquor stores; from contacting his victims; from consuming alcohol or illegal drugs. Also, he must comply with standard sex offender rules, wear a Global Position System bracelet, have regular face-to-face contact with law enforcement and be a lifetime registrant of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registration Program.

Vahlenkamp is 5-foot-9, weighs 295 pounds, has gray hair, brown eyes and wears glasses. He has scars on his upper chest, lower left arm and upper left hip.

I think the registry should be more clear cut. There are people on there that have the conviction because they were 18 and had a 16 year-old girlfriend. Now they are listed along with Chester the Molester.

sannio--so what?? Did you know there is no 'cure' for a pedophile? Once a pedophile ALWAYS a pedophile--there is no known therapy that can cure them of the desire to have sex with little kids. I worked with abused/neglected children--should I tell have told them, your perp has been released so he/she can do what they did to you to another child. So what. Pedophile should NEVER be released back into society--one strike is more than enough to be locked away forever.

I wonder if the scars he has are from a little street justice in the slammer?

He is from Waukesha. JS online has an article on him. Why is Rock County getting sex offenders dumped here from other communities? Maybe the Sheriff can try to explain this one!

So what!! A sex offender that can do yard work. Probably casing the neighborhood kids while he is raking his yard. May if you had every been sexually molested by this creep, you would think differently. These guys can be on the list as lifelong and still marry and have more kids of their own, after being convicted of molesting their children from a first marriage. I know this for a fact because I know of some stupid woman who married one knowing he was an offender and then had a kid with him. The state doesn't care as long as they supposedly follow the rules. Creeps..all of them!!!

So what? I already live next to a registered sex offender. I've talked to him and his wife more than any other neighbor so far. I like them both. His yard work puts me to shame, too. He was never incarcerated according to CCAP, but he's in the registry anyway. I'm glad he doesn't have a tattoo on his forehead.

No, for those ones, right after they get caught, you tattoo them before they go to prison. They will love them there! Even a better idea yet!!!

Do you want tattoos on all of the sex offenders who are not yet exposed? This guy is a registered sex offender, his information is out there. I worry about the sex offenders who have not been caught. You would be surprised to know they work in schools, daycares, and are even close family members.

Spark: I love the idea of the tattoo! I can't stand this type of stupidity/sickness! Can we ship them to a deserted island so they don't harm the innocent? Oh, sorry, Human Rights would be after us.

Its wierd because I was just notified in my email that a sex offender near me has moved and was looking at the registry just before checking the news. There are sooooo many offenders in Janesville. Its really kind of scary that all these sick people are free to just roam the streets, go to the mall, restaurants...etc. No one is really safe these days.

Walker, this story is in the Latest News blog, the other story is the one that is in the paper. They never put photos in the news blog stories.
.
Most sex offenders look like normal people, danias, I hope you're aware. If they were all goofy looking that might be as good as a tattoo.
.
376905, that's 17 years in prison, which is actually fairly long for a sex-related conviction.

My tattoo idea would work perfect on that type of forehead. Lots of room. I think I'm on to something here.

Danias, I know.
I have shown my children the sex offender site just to prove to them these people look totally normal.

There is a picture of him in the second story on this:

I don't understand why this story wasn't just updated instead of writing a whole other story.

In all honesty, I realize a court would never approve that. I was being a little humorous, but it's still a fabulous idea.

I would favor some sort of ID bracelet. Before you post, I know it could be covered by clothing, but in all honesty, do you really think the court would force him to have a tattoo on his forehead. I like where your head's at, though, spark.

I think before they release them, they should take them to the tattoo parlor and have "sex offender" tattooed on their foreheads.

I remember once on campus at Blackhawk Technical College a convicted sex offender was on campus-it was very nerve wracking. They locked down the daycare and then installed special security for the doors right after that. The police came, but there was not much they could do. He was following students and teachers inside campus. He was asked to leave and then just did circles in the parking lot. The Sheriff's Department followed him around and eventually he got the hint to leave. It was like he was enjoying the attention. He was in the paper soon after for violating his terms of release.
