Milwaukee Mile in financial trouble
MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Mile is in financial trouble, and even its biggest boosters wonder whether the nation's oldest auto racing facility will see its 107th birthday.
The facility has been running auto races at State Fair Park since 1903. But now, the office is closed and all 12 staff members have been laid off temporarily.
Claude Napier, president and chief executive of Wisconsin Motorsports, told the Journal Sentinel the facility's future depends on whether he can get some investors.
Napier's organization owes NASCAR nearly $1.9 million for two races in June and owes the Indy Racing League an undisclosed amount.

Are you kidding? The old owner fought with the state to break its contract, because it was losing millions of dollars. (The same guy is CEO of the new ownership group, so it was more a matter of his backers wanting out.)

Why was it sold ? Didn't hear anything like this with the old owners.
